I was on pornhub a while ago and I don't know how this happened but I stumbled upon this article that came from out of a pop up ad and I don't know if it was because I was high when I read it but it really scared the fuck out of me for hitting a little too close to home. After reading it, it didn't sound like an over exaggeration but how accurate is it really? It's a little long and probably a little old but if you don't want to read the entire thing, well then just browse through it and tell me what you're thinking.

The title of the article was "It's the end of the world as we know it and I'm okay with that" or something like it.

__________

So yeah. Things are bad. Real bad. I’m not trying to go full-on doomsday on everyone but here are (some of) the facts.

Facebook’s servers are overloaded, and their employees are overworked in battling hoaxes and false news related to the COVID-19 epidemic. Twitter is deleting and banning tweets that promote activities that could spread the coronavirus. California estimates that 56% of its population will get the virus. The Spanish government is feeling a little worse than that, at an estimation of 80% of the population of Madrid getting sick.

Several world governments, including the United States of America, are considering shelving privacy rights, and are in talks with huge tech companies in a bid to access smartphone location data to help stop the spread of this disease. The Israeli government is already tracking and texting individuals who it thinks may have been exposed. Elon Musk is saying that he will be getting his companies to manufacture ventilators, and it seems like he will have the freed up resources to do so, seeing as he is shutting down the Tesla plant on March 23rd. There are over 13,000 cases in the USA, as of the writing of this article.

Amazon has shut down its warehouse in New York after one of its workers tested positive for COVID-19, and that might be a good thing for them anyway because people are starting to get afraid to order packages. There is data that shows that this virus can live on surfaces (and be infectious) for up to 4 days. Although the tech industries (and just about every other field) is in sharp decline, the telemedicine and teleconferencing industries are actually doing pretty well right now, for obvious reasons.

Simply put, the world as we know it is over. Even if all of the cases of coronavirus suddenly disappear. Even if there is not a single additional death. Even if there is a cure that could be emailed to you. The world as we know it is finished. Before you panic, let me elaborate on that.

The way we do things, the way we communicate, the way we live, the way we work, the way we practice health and cleanliness. These things will never be the same. There is no coming back from this. There will not be a return to normal. This virus has shifted the very definition of what we thought normal was, and what we ever thought it could be.

Sure, things are different right now because this virus is on the move, that’s obvious. Right now, most of these changes are small. But some are huge. My friend, Matt, couldn’t get the burger he wanted today because Hardy’s was closed, while on my end, we have had a hard time finding milk and toilet paper. I was in a gas station yesterday, and I overheard the clerk talking to a cigarette distributor.

Today, for most people it’s cigarettes, hot burgers, and modern conveniences such as pasteurized milk and bathroom tissue. Tomorrow, it will be worse. In harder hit areas, people aren’t allowed to go outside. In the Philippians, the military is in the streets. Armed. There are checkpoints all over the country. For the first time in modern history, literally hundreds of millions of people are in total lockdown. Guys, things are not good. Right now, the world is in a mad rush to contain this invisible threat.

I understand that this is a tech website. I understand that this article is only loosely related to tech. Instead of appealing to our normal audience, this article is a call out to everyone. Please. Take this seriously. Don’t be like the kids that are still going to spring break and are still partying it up because ‘this virus ain’t no big deal’. Let me tell you something. This virus is a big deal. Its a really, really big deal.

I’m not saying it’s a big deal because of the mortality rate. Its super low. I’m not saying its a big deal because of the total number of infections or the total number of deaths. Almost any disease you can think of dwarfs COVID’s numbers (so far) in that regard. I’m saying it’s a big deal because of the governmental response. I’m saying i’ts a big deal because of the panic in the streets. I’m saying it’s a big deal because of its effect on the economy. Look around you. Look at what’s happening. If this is not a bonafide global disaster, then I don’t know what is.

Where did coronavirus come from?

It doesn’t matter.

Who is responsible for COVID-19?

It doesn’t matter.

Was the virus intentional?

It doesn’t matter.

All we can do is learn from this. All we can do is learn how to deal with an invisible enemy. If this was intentional, it could have happened on accident. If this is just media hype, it’s still showing that we are vulnerable. Whether its a vulnerability to a new deadly virus or a vulnerability to over-reacting during a time of instantly available global information, it just doesn’t matter. At least not right at this moment. Regardless, the effects are real and will be long-lasting.

Luckily, thankfully, miraculously.. the mortality rate with this virus is low. But guys. We are looking at the real possibility of losing everyone over a certain age. We are looking at the real possibility of losing everyone we know that is already sick from unrelated illnesses.

I understand that some of this article is scary, but the last thing you need to do is panic. This is a time to be calm and sensible but also informed. This is a time where we need to take caution and pay attention. This is a time where we need to take things seriously. This is a time where we need to be kind to each other. This is a time where we need to brace for impact.

You know how many times in history that people claims it was the end of the world?

When U.S was in war. When Pearl Harbor happened, the Great Depression happened, etc.

Chicken pox was not curable, the flu was not curable, Ebola was not curable, now the cornoavirus is not curable?

Everyone is going crazy cause the news says there’s so many deaths happening. But in reality, deaths are happening every day, with car accidents, greed, power, wealth, fame, etc.

But now it comes to virus? Really?

I’ll be more scared once the sun decides to burn all of us to crips.

I'm not implying we should take covid-19 very seriously. However we have gone though this before recently. In my grandmas time 70 years ago people got sick and died often even in the US. Over the generations since then we gave greatly improved medicine.

I have constitutional concerns about governmental over reach with telecoms cooperating and compromising privacy to that extent, again!

I hope that doors are closed again after this is over but I know it will take public outcry for that to hapoen, AGAIN!

I'm more concerned for future goverment bodies then the current. Skippy slope..

As for the fear mongering. It's a self fulling prophecy kinda thing. If enough people believe it and act it out it will start a chain reaction from others. It could literally cause it 😑

Case and point the run on the stores and hitting when this all started. Totally unnecessary.

I agree with this article wholeheartedly.

It is not the end of the world.

It is the end of the world as we know it and we all need to accept personal responsibility for that.....especially those that are not taking it seriously.

Well.. I'm taking things very seriously, I'm just not going to stress over something that I have no control over and can do nothing about. That's my choice & that's perfectly okay.

I'm taking my precautions, I'm learning as much I can on the situation at hand but I will not run for the hills, buy a world of toilet paper, watch news coverage after news coverage and drive myself completely insane trying to guess & prevent the unknown.

So chamomile it is 🍵🌼🌼🌼

You need some chamomile in your life.

TAZO calm chamomile

A comforting herbal infusion of chamomile, rose petals & soothing herbs.

Got one more of these left. Way ahead of you. Still, I don't think that this should be ignored. Did you ever see the movie Contagion?

Spoiler alert: this is the ending

I haven't taken a bath in over a dozen years. I'll keep that in mind, though. And take this virus a little more seriously. An actor that was in The Dark Knight Rises just recently passed away due to the corona virus. Food for thought.

A man who went by the name of Jay Benedict. Heard of him? I hadn't heard of him up until his death. He was 68. But he would've lived a hell of a lot longer though had it not been for this corona outbreak.

Posted by JustaBoyThe title of the article was "It's the end of the world as we know it and I'm okay with that" or something like it.

I gonna respond in a direct way for this one.

-- Facebook’s servers are overloaded, and their employees are overworked in battling hoaxes and false news related to the COVID-19 epidemic. Twitter is deleting and banning tweets that promote activities that could spread the coronavirus --

Facebook servers have gone down many times before this, nothing new, nothing old, and their employees don't go searching for articles.... Jesus, a "tech website" with people that don't know that Facebook, twitter and YouTube are almost all algorithm driven? 🙄

-- California estimates that 56% of its population will get the virus. The Spanish government is feeling a little worse than that, at an estimation of 80% of the population of Madrid getting sick --

odds are most of us will get it, most are asymptomatic, that's how it has spread so fast, some Argentinian teen basically killed his grandfather, he broke the curfew and catched the virus, passed it to the old man, the old man dies, most people are not getting sick however.

-- Several world governments, including the United States of America, are considering shelving privacy rights --

yeah, let's pretend that Edward Snowden and the NSA is not a thing, is not like the government has been trying to shelve privacy right for some time now.... NoOoOOOoOO....

-- Simply put, the world as we know it is over. The way we do things, the way we communicate, the way we live, the way we work, the way we practice health and cleanliness. These things will never be the same. There is no coming back from this. There will not be a return to normal. This virus has shifted the very definition of what we thought normal was, and what we ever thought it could be --

the way we do things change every damn time, how many people in this forum can remember a time with smartphones, a time when computers were huge and cumbersome, heck my first pc didn't have internet, didn't that change the we did things? the way we communicate.... UWU

-- Sure, things are different right now because this virus is on the move, that’s obvious. Right now, most of these changes are small. But some are huge. My friend, Matt, couldn’t get the burger he wanted today because Hardy’s was closed --

OH!!! poor Matt, how will he ever recover from this.

-- In harder hit areas, people aren’t allowed to go outside. In the Philippians, the military is in the streets. Armed. There are checkpoints all over the country. For the first time in modern history, literally hundreds of millions of people are in total lockdown. Guys, things are not good. Right now, the world is in a mad rush to contain this invisible threat --

funny though, military without arms are just people, think about that, still no one is doing "duck and cover", remember those? the ones in case of a nuclear attack? yeah.... modern history, just saying

"I’m saying it’s a big deal because of the governmental response. I’m saying i’ts a big deal because of the panic in the streets. I’m saying it’s a big deal because of its effect on the economy. Look around you. Look at what’s happening. If this is not a bonafide global disaster, then I don’t know what is"

the government response was as expected, deniying till is so bad it have to act like idiots, a couple of scummy officials trying to capitalize on the issue too ofc, panic in the streets, people panic because of the media blowing things up, fuck me, republicans panicked when Obama got elected the first time, people can panic for the most idiotic reasons is laughable some times.

and the economy is lucky we didn't fucked it before this pandemic, just look at 2008, no virus, just plain stupidity.

-- All we can do is learn from this. it’s still showing that we are vulnerable. Whether its a vulnerability to a new deadly virus or a vulnerability to over-reacting during a time of instantly available global information, it just doesn’t matter --

and THAT'S the problem, just why did people think they were not vulnerable I wonder, who said that? how naive can people become, this was said over and over again, we are not ready, we are on the edge for a "perfect storm", just a tiny virus can spread and done us all.

but not, people were invulnerable apparently, even if most can get their own food, unless it is already cooked in Hardys.... oh that poor Matt....

-- Luckily, thankfully, miraculously.. the mortality rate with this virus is low. But guys. We are looking at the real possibility of losing everyone over a certain age. We are looking at the real possibility of losing everyone we know that is already sick from unrelated illnesses --

we haven't beaten cancer yet either, covid19 would need to kill 10 million to match a year of cancer, think about that, and yes, most deaths are over a certain age too.

but we are used to cancer, and ofc no one want covid to stay around, and more importantly many of those death were preventable had the virus not spread, but the WHO is as useless as always.

-- I understand that some of this article is scary, but the last thing you need to do is panic. This is a time to be calm and sensible but also informed --

how bold from such click baiting tittle, tHe wORdL iS EnDIng!!! but is not time to panic you guys....

those articles are exactly the problem with moments like these, just like the government, they try to take advantage of the situation for their own gain, and just like the panicked in the streets, they are unnecessary and misinformed, if they could affect the economy they would probably do so too.

this is the time for social distance, even from news and media, I'm so fucking over all of this, and I'm already coming less to dxp!! LMAO.
