Love him or hate him, Bill Gates sure hits the nail on the head with this speech... To anyone with children of any age, here's some good advice.
Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically-correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.
Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will NOT make $ 60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes - learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
sooo true they are sooo darn good at giving you advises but NEVER follow their own advice......o sorpio, o scorpio, o scorpio..... u cant live with them..you cant live without them.....
I cant say anything bad about the guy, he is paying for part of my college life (maybe not him personally), but I too am waiting for Mac OS leopard. Im glad I didnt buy the last latest MacBook, apples good for updating quickly after a new release of something.
Bill Gates has alot of wisdom and is using his money for good. His philanthropy has donated billions to charity, and he has often said that he really doesn't like be the richest man on the planet. Too heavy a burden. True, Microsoft tended to "borrow" ideas in the beginning, but most companies have. The man must know something about business to survive and thrive in the shark-infested waters of the computer industry. The prime minister of China would rather meet with him than our president.
primegen, you are really showing your ignorance of the computer industry. Being able to efficiently search for porn doesn't make you an expert on software...
Tiger users are able to use Boot camp, i think. They keep saying it will be released later this year. I'd buy it early next year just to be sure they are thru with the upgrades.
Of course you are allowed to have an opinion, but you obviously don't know what you are talking about. Isn't your area marketing? Maybe you should stick with that. I hear it involves watching hours of television...
But why would an intelligent individual such as yourself listen to "trailer trash" like me...
I am only insulting you, and only because you chose to attack without provocation last week. And managed to make yourself look like an idiot in the process. I guess astrology generalizations hold some water, Leos don't suffer fools lightly...
Actually, I only insulted 33% of the country. That's where Bush's approval rating is hovering nowadays.
You're problem is that you can't stick on topic. If someone disagrees with you, you would rather insult than provide facts and circumstances supporting your argument. Like I said before, you are the one that started with the personal attacks last week. I'm just aiming to finish it.
You are the only person I've met on these boards that I don't like and I look forward to cutting you down to size at every opportunity. Or maybe you'll do it yourself and save me the trouble...
I did stick on topic, I praised Bill Gates before pointing out that you are a moron. The insults last week were both ways, but you happened to start them. And now I'm returning the favor.
Don't flatter yourself, you're not worth stalking. You just happened to stumble across my field of expertise. I'll let you get back to your job search. I'm sure your mother can't wait for you to move out of the basement...
It's like Office Space without the excitement. I don't have a printer to beat with a bat, that's why I use primegen instead.
It's OK, banking hours and it pays well. But things have to be running smoothly 24/7/365 or else it gets extremely stressful. What are you getting your masters in?
sb, what languages are you focusing on? The banking industry is a pretty cushy gig, I'm glad to be back. But it gets extremely boring sometimes. However, I would take the boring over being worked like a dog. The gaming industry is notorious for being run like sweatshops. But they pay very well also.
Unfortunately, most software shops tend to disconnect people from reality. Where else can you play ping pong for an hour on company time without getting into trouble? 🙂 I tried working in the real world, I sold real estate for a year. Too frustrating dealing with people that aren't logical...
primegen, I meant petty as in "Marked by narrowness of mind, ideas, or views", but thank you for getting the double-entendre. I would love to argue with you further, but it's even more boring than my job. Which is saying alot. Back to work...
Why would an aquarius man who is usually in regular contact with someone suddenly just 'disappear'? Is there any rational behind this, or should i just leave him to it and assume he doesnt want to talk anymore?
Have you heard of Letoya Luckett? I think she is a great R&B singer, what do you think about her. If you like her song "Torn" then you will love her new single "She Don't". You can listen to both traks and the videos on youtube.com
Why are women not more important in history as geniuses? The usual assumption is that women have not had access to education and have not had the opportunity to excel. However, there is a real difference in brain desig
Are Aquas forgetful or do they like to act as if something never happened?
I told the Aqua I'd been seeing (yes, Prime, for a short amount of time) that I needed to end it with him over the weekend. But low and behold, I get a phone call from hi
NO I DO NOT AGREE THAT A MAN AND A WOMAN CANNOT BE PLATONIC FRIENDS WITHOUT SCREWING ... that's just silly. I definitely respect your opinion but you can't change my mind ;)
However, it's really pathetic how men and women deceive each other (whet
I've entertained the thought for years now of being with one aqua guy, but never was sure what he feels. we don't live in the same country any longer, but since we are both trevelers and move often, I never saw this as a problem in the future, since I alw
