For one, I think your son's father is the real "homewrecker" here...he is the one you were in a relationship...and he is the only one who owes you and your family anything.
While the Libra may not be acting with the best judgment...it is what it is.
They probably deserve each other, and I doubt they will be able to have any type of lasting healthy relationship based on the manner in which they began one - founded on deceit and disloyalty.
I don't think there are certain placements that dictate this.
I think it's just an unhappy person thing.

Agreed, I don't think it comes down to star signs, there are so many things that factor into being a home wrecker, upbringing, self esteem, morals..everyone at some point in their lives feels attraction to someone that isn't available...it's what you choose to do about it at the time that seals the deal!
