Ascendants and Self Image

Normally people say the Asc is the "first impression" or "mask to the public". That after you see that, the sun and moo signs become more apparent the more to see them person. Though why would a "mask' be hailed greater than the sun and moon to some astrologers? Furthermore,it's affects your houses, leading them in fact, so it seems weird that the Asc would "just" be something so simple.
I believe there is MUCH more to it and that it's not common knowledge as to why what else it means. First, in various astrology disciplines, like esoteric, the Asc can be considered your soul. Independent from your ego (Sun) and mind/emotions (Moon.) I've read that the asc is the image we make up ourselves in order to function in the world around us.
Another interesting part is the descendant. Which is explained as what traits drawn you in for relationships. Some might say the attraction comes for having a lack of said traits, thus you would be drawn to the things you don't have and are opposite to. Well to be contrary to that school of thought, I read elsewhere that the descendant are the traits you project onto others. Also that you seek them out in order to drawn said traits out from yourself. (I.E. An Aries Rising would seek out a Libra Rising to become more diplomatic, while the Libra would want to become more dominate.)
Thoughts?
Well maybe you need another Scorpio so you can be MORE Scorpio? -shrug- If your Ascendant and Descendant signs are the most dominate in your charts, the whole theory in't totally murdered. Decendant would be what's projected, so in your case you'd want a Scorpio so you either balance them out or meet them in their intensity. In theory anyway.
Cap sun, Virgo rising, Pisces Desc.
Never had a lasting relationship with Pisces, though I do get along well with Pisces people, drawn to water people in general, and was married to a Gemini with a Pisces moon.
I agree with you for the most part, SirHorns. With a Libra Asc, I wanna give off the image that I'm well-balanced and laid-back when I'm anything but that. I have a lot of water in my chart and when someone gets to know me, they realize how emotional I am and at times, it's too much for them.
Since my Dsc is in Aries, I do wish I had more of the traits of one (lively, born-leader, adventurous), but I do not attract Aries. I've been attracted to a few Arian females, but I never approached them like that. Sad

i'm a taurus with sag rising. i do not seek bulls actively, as you see i'm quite full of bull already. hah hah. i don't know what i seek.

Correct me if I'm wrong but since you're a Sag Rising, wouldn't your descendant sign be a Gemini?
So I have a Leo soul, a Capricorn ego, and Cancer emotions.
How do you find your descendant?

I'm pretty sure your descendant is in Aquarius if you have a Leo soul.
Your descendant is always the opposite sign to your rising sign.
Aries/Libra
Taurus/Scorpio
Gemini/Sagittarius
Cancer/Capricorn
Virgo/Pisces
^- always.
ascen. is more important than sun an moon combined.my observation
For me ascendant as name says is how you are and grow in society. The Self-Growing.
My love one Moon is Sag, so it can make sense, my gemini asc is drawn to her emotion.

I pretty much agree with all of this. Ascendant is simply a shell. Once you crack that shell, what you see is what you get. Never judge a book by it's cover. Winking

With my taurus rising I give off the calm, cool, collected and serious image but once they get to know my aqua sun and sag moon they soon realize I'm psycho.

lolol
Got to ??? Taurus rising. Tongue

That's a good rising Taurus...gee...way to stay calm and collected in life..
I'm a Cancer rising, I come across as emotional, childish, dreamy...
I'm an Aries Sun, Cap Moon, Pisces Mars....I'm such a mix...I think I'm really hard to read once you get to know me, but on the surface I'm like a tiny lamb...this really sucks, all my strengths, and personality, are blocked by my lack of social skills...and candid appearance...

^^^ Same here (Aries Sun/Cancer Asc) Sad! And with my Aqua moon, I'm pretty sure my social skills are HORRIBLE b/c I can detach from a situation so easily and not feel it necessary to communicate any longer on it, which happens more often in my relationship. That's actually one of the very reasons I became so interested in Astrology, to see why I'm not as much of an "Aries" as my sun sign. How can these traits be mastered? I try, I really do, to communicate how I feel and be this "social butterfly" everyone wants, just doesn't seem to work.

I find that it's hard to please everyone, because people can always find something that they don't like about you. So instead of bending over backwards to conform to what they think you should be as a person just be yourself.Trust me it's easier and it's the surest way to gain confidence in yourself. @chocolate aries I have a virgo rising so on first impressions I seem really shy... I'm not that way really, I'm only my true bubbly self around those I feel most comfortable with and you know what it's okay smile

Thanks for that! And I do love amd except me for me, but I know some things in my personality sucks and it can affect the way I communicate (or lack of), especially with my S/O and that's what bothers ME about myself. I always get like that in relationships where I feel a certain type of way and I want to express that but b/c I'm Aries(extrovert)and Cancer(introvert) all at once, it's a huge internal conflict and then I shut down, which then causes me to be snappy and short and irritated w/ people before I realize that's what I'm doing. I don't like that about myself, that's why I took proactive steps to try and control it. It's not like that all the time, but when certain situations happen, I can't seem to address and express the important things, even when I know I need to and even when they know somethings wrong, and that can make people feel shut out.
