A dear friend of mine attends counseling for alcohol. Her mentor told her that from years of going in and out of jail, also now being a mentor to those who suffer from addictions. She mostly saw that Scorpios, Libras and Gemini's are the signs she saw again and again. I wonder why these sign— She felt crazy and better at the same time knowing she is a Scorpio sun, Gemini moon, and asc in libra. Any thoughts?

I've known a Scorpio addict, and I know a Libra working in financial services that hits all the recreational drugs hard. I forgot what the chart aspect was that makes someone more susceptible to taking shortcuts and abusing drugs, but I remember an Aries I knew that had it in her chart (and it was true).

hmm interesting I'd like to know more about the chart aspects.

Ok so it seems the chief culprit for alcoholism in particular is Neptune opposite Moon.

Any hard aspects between a person's Neptune and either Moon or Mercury will create the opening for looking to alcohol and substance abuse as an escape from emotional problems.

But Jupiter can factor in too. I know Don Johnson on here says Sagittarius are more likely to be crack addicts in the street in their life goes wrong.


On the Gemini thing.... apparently Venus in Taurus (which obviously Gemini is one of a handful of Sun that can have this placement in their chart) square Saturn can also lead to alcoholism/ a love of wine in excess. I can't be sure. I am a Gemini and sometimes I think I am an alcoholic, lol. I have never done drugs though. Besides legit rx's.

yeh I def have thought that before as well. Mainly in my early twenties. But being so close to her and knowing what she's going thru now. I see the major diff. Where as eventually me stopping the partying was not over night but I never had multiple DUI nor did it effect my job!

That sounds about right, actually.

Nearly every Gemini I've known personally, has an appetite for alcohol and goes overboard with it--even those not dependent on the bottle are "problem drinkers" to some extent. Fortunately most are also fun happy drunks.

The Libran addicts are predominantly male in my experience. 2 Libra guys I've been friends with since high school both got addicted to heroin in their early twenties, abused numerous other drugs all the while and kept it up for years.
One was arrested & attended mandatory rehab following a 2 yr sentence; the other entered treatment after his family intervened & gave him an ultimatum...which happened twice, given his relapse.

Coincidentally I also know 2 "recovering" Scorpio addicts(a guy & girl respectively). Both quit shooting dope with the help of rehab, yet they use other drugs to a far lesser extent nowadays.

Personally I've dabbled a lot--never tried crack, meth or inhalants. Used to pop painkillers regularly but not to the extent of dependence/addiction.
I'm eternally glad I didn't get hooked or O'D on the various substances I experimented with and ultimately have no regrets, yet I acknowledge this is reckless high-risk behavior.

Lastly, given my perspective I want to add that alcohol's side-effects and intoxicant strength are monumental. In contrast to any backlash following the use of other substances, booze hangovers are the worst by a longshot. Even when I mixed drugs or ingested more than I should've, the physical ramifications were nonexistent compared to the pain of a hangover. LOL seriously though.

That doesn't account for the "good thing" being drugs or alcohol. Maybe the sextiles with Neptune do. personally I think sextile is a rather easy and weak aspect to have with Neptune but if you enter the details at a more comprehensive site like astro.com you might get more aspects.

If you used cafeastrology they tend to miss out a lot of aspects.

Hmm ok this makes sense. I did look up her chart on cafe I'lll have to go on the other site you mentioned. She has said to me she doesn't know how to say no once she started. I know a lot of what she has going on is caring a lot about what ppl think of her. She think part of having a social life is going out and drinking. I'm now trying to get her into more day time activities like hiking and DIY projects. Anyway thx for your response 🙂

I've thought a lot about this b4. Not so much an addict or alcoholic even but even mental disorder or handicapped some way. This is part of the reason I don't want kids. You can do your best to raise them "right" but there is always so outside influence that effects them. Especially now everything

I think the scale of how powerful the chart ruler is slides between moderate and maximum, though that depends on aspects. I would think Taurus in the 8th house(since we only have her rising) would have an issue with overindulgence for some reason.

But yeah, my Gemini friend is back out again, after seven years sober.

And it's bad. *sigh*

Idk why Libras or Geminis seem more inclined to partake-- Scorpios, I could guess, but I'd rather not.

But really... chemical abuse is simply about changing the way that you feel, on demand.

Every person I know who is an alcoholic had abandonment issues in their childhood. Mostly fathers who were scarce in the child's life, but, telling the kid that he loved them.

Being a kid, there is no way for them the rationalize that the father is a fucked up asshole, and so the kid takes it all on themselves to believe that they must be such a fucked up asshole that their father doesn't want them.

Sometimes, mothers do this, but, mostly father.

All of those ^^^^^ people grew up to the alcoholics, or are in prison.

And I've lived long enough now to see what happens to kids when they grow up with a parent who uses them as their personal emotional whipping post.

Well im a Gemini with Libra Rising and moon and I don't do this type of thing.

The biggest drug addicts and alcoholics that Ive met have always been Pisces. Every single one has been an addict of some sort. Whether a closet eater, binge or purge, sex addict, drugs, alcohol, etc.

I don't disagree, really-- but at the same time, there are people who had screwed up childhoods who don't abuse substances.

So what would predispose these folks to substance abuse, you think-- other than heredity?

At no point did I even insinuate that I was talking every person ... I said, specifically,

Talking of which,i now know why its called the demon drink
I was at a music pub watching a band i know and minding my
own business, I noticed there were a few pissed up blokes around
so kept myself to myself. This old one kept looking at me so i just
blanked him and then he came over and shook my hand.....not too
bad but he walked off then. A few minutes later he came over to me
again and started pulling at my arm and when i resisted he did it more
so i shouted at him to leave me alone,,,,he kept on doing it so i pushed
him away hard. The idiot was all over the place. I asked to speak to the
manager and asked why he was still feeding him booze when he was out
of it and told him he had been pulling at me. He said that he was in the
bar every day and i asked was he an alkie, to which he replied *yes*. So i
asked again why he kept feeding him booze. He asked if i wanted him to
chuck him out and i told him not to bother and just left

This society is so fucked up.....people would rather see others shitfaced and
killing themselves slowly so they can make money out of them 😢

I looked around at all the single drunken males and wondered who was helping
them to recover from their addiction and felt sad for them, but even so, there
is no way i am gonna let any guy maul me on my night out

Yeah-- they don't call them Spirits for nothing. 😉

There's alot of truth in that. Even if the father is around, he's working in some kind of NASA institute, scientist or whatever, or working far far away and never around. He may be a good/ a great provider, but if he's not around to help father, even part time, it's difficult.

You wonder if your father, for example ever loved you, or ever cared. But in the end of it all, an individual needs to get support/help and be in circles that will help them understand that it's not about his father, or his father's lack of presence. you can't change how things were/are, so the change has to come from within, but the support of others. No man is an island really. Even if they don't have a social group to get support, there is the more powerful kind: more religious and more bent to spirituality. That also helps from working from within.
