I plan on going back to school to further my education. I want to be a business owner, preferably working with dogs and then getting into food
I dont ever want to work a 9-5 again. I feel trapped. So I must make way. This can't be it for me, it won't!!!
Any advice? Have you started ya own? Did you fail or succeed? What did it feel like?? What would you have done differently??
Posted by ELIGABRealistically, if you'll start from scratch and don't have the business set up already, you'll probably work 7 to 7, at least in the beginning.
I dont ever want to work a 9-5 again.
Posted by Ram416Well in general, when it comes to booksmart, I'm barely making it lol. Thank God my virgoness saved me with intelligence lol. I want to at least have an AA or BA just to survive out here. Maybe in accounting or business. Skills I can apply to life.Posted by ELIGABPet food?

What level of education were you looking at? I know of people who only had basic education (only finished up to Grade 8) who managed to get somewhere successfully in their businesses, but not after learning from working for other people for years.click to expand

I can be your first employee. My doggo can give you a very good wooference.

When you say your sick of a 9-5 do you mean the structured hours? Or just working 40hrs in general.
Cause I'm sorry but realistically you'll be working 60-80+ hrs the first few years starting a business. Then IF its successful you can scale back on time and hire someone to run it. Big if. People go under all the time...

Third generation entrepreneur...
Owning your own busines is your LIFE!
Every moment of every day you were thinking about it. You will make sacrifices financially emotionally your friendships relationships in order to invest back into your business if you want it to be successful. You need to be driven, you need to be organized, you need to understand how marketing works and you need to understand how finances work and you need to understand how to build a brand. You have to balance your people skills, your trade skills, and your business skills to create a successful small business. You need to understand insurance, your local laws and codes.
Be prepared to work long and hard for little to no profit. Its like having a newborn, it comes first.
I come from parents who had a VERY successful business, my husband and I ran a successful company and I recently started a new one.
Its no walk in the park...

Posted by HeartofTopazzWhat do you have for a business? If it's not too much to ask (if private just ignore)
Get a Business degree. Save $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ . Research and make as many connections as you can that will help you now, and in the future. Keep a journal of ideas handy, so you don’t forget them.
Be prepared to sign your life away until things get up and running, and even after that. It takes a few years to get settled in a routine and to work through all of the kinks, and even then there will always be something to deal with. I’m able to work from home now, but that doesn’t guarantee that I won’t get a random call at 6am and have to get out of bed and drive up there to handle shit. I wouldn’t go into this thinking that you will have to work less. It’s extremely time consuming but equally rewarding and I wish you the best of luck! Drink lots of coffee![]()

It’s fine I’ve mentioned it here before. I own a feed and pet supply store. We do business with a lot of farmers, but also get a lot of locals too. Also offer other stuff and carry local products from people trying to get their product out. We recently acquired a medical marijuana grow license.. So that’s what I’ve been working on right meow. Posted by GemLoverWhen my husband started our business we made $ 19,000 the first year.Posted by Jade_AlexanderI do know all the clients personally. Tho some of them can be a big pain in the ass wanting their office sparkling. We do mostly big office buildings and clinics at night and do residential during the day. And I never worked a successful company as someone who sits behind a desk in a suit and tie all day. Now that kind of job I couldn't do nor see myself doing. As far as turning something like this into a profit. It's not like I need a profit from this business. I can sell this business to someone else if I so want to and turn that into a profit.Posted by GemLoverThis is cute, do you actually turn a profit?Posted by Mr_PinchyWhen I first started my own business I never worked no 60 to 80 plus hours on my first few years.
