Grand Cross

This topic was created in the Astrology forum by Loladoll on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 and has 13 replies.
Is this a Grand Cross?

Does anyone have a grand cross in their natal chart? What is the modality? How do you work with the energy.

Do aspects to MC/ AS "count" in making a grand cross or would it only be aspect to planets?

Do you relate to what the grand cross represents in your chart?

I wonder if there is a way to determine what exactly counts lol
OP, you have a mutable grand cross like me.

I do relate to it. I've always had a really hard time getting started. Doesn't matter what I'm trying to start, getting started is tough and the beginning stages of everything are always a challenge for me. Even if I was enthusiastic about doing something, once it's time to get started, I have a tough time.

Have to keep going, though. Once I get rolling, I'm fine.

Interesting. Does yours hit your angles or is it planets? What houses is it in?

I don't have a hard time starting but I have difficult time completing things. I lose interest. Once I'm not emotionally invested I just move on to the next thing or I "about face" suddenly.

Maybe that's a Sun/ AC/ Moon/ MC square Uranus problem.

I have a Cardinal Grand Cross. A bunch of inner tension that needs an outlet. I think all cardinal signs need an outlet. We tend to let things build up pretty quick and it often comes out as frustration, anxiety and impulsiveness. For me its been just that, anxiety. But I have come to learn that no matter what, my tolerance to agitation is pretty low but having goals and chasing them helps me out alot. It takes away the focus off of the problems at hand. Exercise is my best outlet. It allows me to free my mind and my body and helps the frustration subside.
Have you found that the tension of the squares propels you to greater success?

Do you think it affects one area of your life more than another like career, creativity, relationships?

Mine is fixed, SN, NN, Mercury and Chiron
That's sound mystical/ past life-ish.

How do you feel the affects?

That depends, do you consider yourself Chironic?

Most professional astrologers don't count angles and neither nodes (as they're mathematical points). Chiron is not a planet but it have its importance, you can get different answers with this one.

I was actually reminded that I always meant to look into this and never got around to it. I have three planets squaring off with each other and the fourth square is actually to my Ascendent. The mutable grand cross descriptions fit me like a glove, but I was never sure if the Ascendent counted.

Here's some info for ya'll if you don't already know: Only the planets and luminaries count. No angles, asteroids, nodes, no nothing else. Planets and luminaries only.

So although I have a big ol' square at the center of my chart that looks pretty official, I don't actually have that configuration. Apparently, I just have the problems associated with it lol.

If I DID have the cross, it would be 1, 4, 7 and 10 (Ascendent, Neptune, Moon and Venus). But I don't.

It's actually not supposed to be all that bad. Some astrologers believe it's a more positive configuration than the t-square and helps to keep the native more focused.

How would one be Chironic? Chiron always makes me mildly uncomfortable when I read about it. Why is it important?

Chiron is square my Ac, sun, moon/ Opp my Uranus, and conj my MC...all at 3 degree Orbs or less.

My moon and Jupiter are conj so make the same aspect to Chiron. And my AC and Sun are conj as well.

If it is only planets and luminaries. I don't count either. All my planets are in the Northern Hemisphere/ bottom of my chart in my first six houses. If I did have it mine would be (Sun/AC, Moon/ Jupiter, Uranus, MC/Chiron)

It could just be the squares and opposites of planets causing a similar tension to the formation. I have always felt the opp between my sun and moon strongly. And the sun/moon square Uranus is just the devil.

Did just read though that the "missing leg" of the not Grand Cross is a point of relief from the tension of the multiple squares in your chart. So maybe I should be looking to my MC for a solution. lol

This is what gets me with astrology. They create things only to use them at their own convenience. Chiron isn't a planet but technically neither is pluto and both are classified as the same bodies but somehow one is more important than the other. Just my thought towards astrologers

I took june_r's statement to mean that Chiron, as minor planet, might "count" in a Grand Cross in the same way Pluto would even though angles and nodes are excluded.

Chiron is usually not activated at birth. You have to go through an initiation which can involve abuse, illness, an accident... In pagan communities, this may involve the consumption of drugs and rituals. The influence of a Chironic parent tends to be one of the keys.. if there wasn't one then the influence of a guru (teacher) is needed.

This initiation is to induce different states of consciousness, trauma is one of the thing that triggers this. The result is the removal of one's sense of boundaries. Chiron then opens the spiritual magical path. Is linked to shamanism, witchcraft and healing work.

Read the mythology behind Chiron, its connection to shamanism, healing practices such as soul retrieval...

Kind of curious here but I'm wondering about the connection between mutable placements and Chiron. Do you feel like your personality is somewhat splitted?

The Magician archetype is quite possible related to Chiron (and the outer planets)..

It brings the management of different personalities and is linked to the practice of sacred arts, mysticism...

Wow. I literally had to take a step back from my computer. I've had a few gurus/ teachers.

I don't feel like my personality is split - it's more of a constant balancing act between order, responsibility, duty, logic and escapism, intense emotional response, fantasy. When I'm in balance those things combine nicely into imagination, creativity and healing/ helping talents. Out of balance and is overkill in one direction until I burn out and shut down.

My personality is pretty steady. I do have the ability to project a certain personality or trait at will, almost like a glamour, but I rarely do that anymore. Most people who meet me would never guess that I have any esoteric interests.
