Ophiuchus, the sign of the Serpent Bearer, is the 10th sign of the Real Solar Zodiac: according to this scientific theory/website, maybe there's more...Just found it, so haven't read fully yet. Anyway, something a lil different to chew on..LOL

"However, although it lies on the Ecliptic it is not one of the signs of either the Tropical Zodiac of standard Western Astrology, or the Sidereal Zodiac of standard Vedic astrology."

The Real Solar Zodiac Sun Signs:

Sun Sign Meaning Dates
01: Pisces the Fishes 12 Mar to 18 Apr
02: Aries the Ram 19 Apr to 13 May
03: Taurus the Bull 14 May to 19 Jun
04: Gemini the Twins 20 Jun to 20 Jul
05: Cancer the Crab 21 Jul to 9 Aug
06: Leo the Lion 10 Aug to 15 Sep
07: Virgo the Maiden 16 Sep to 30 Oct
08: Libra the Scales 31 Oct to 22 Nov

10: Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer 30 Nov to 17 Dec

yeah same here, personally i don't put 'any' stock into it (the website); unless the actual characteristics stay 'the same', regardless of sign change. i don't even think i put much stock into sidereal astrology. (which would make me aquarius..lol) For many obvious reasons and imho, 'Western Astrology ..will always be the accepted/most accurate, and obviously makes the most sense.

(my mother's the quintessential Aries/my Dad very Piscean, as i am..)

it could have been a mere coincidence that 12 constellations matched the 12 signs 5000 or whatever years ago. may be when those days astrologers kept wondering about the dates, they probably happened to find out the similarities in sun in each constellation. and the shape of the constellation and the meaning man has assumed to it are only man's assumption and imagination based on the available 2D perspective from earth.

I think there is a fair amount of truth in your article Mystic fish. You can't really deny the scientific truth behind this new discovery.

read this article, esapecially the precession of equinoxes part..

but just because there is a thirdteenth sign, it doesn't mean that the new system can be used as a new standard for astrology. Because like I say before, the division of time periods between the signs is simply unfair.

I very much agree with you there, red_aries. I don't believe in Orphicus or any 13th sign. As in my last post, just by personality traits alone/how people 'really' feel and act; i will always find 'Western Astrology' far more credible for those reasons, and of course many others - as you delve even deeper into the houses/aspects/synastry, etc etc.

As for sidereal. Again, the 'real' proof; how do people really feel & act. For some, the sun-sign wouldn't change. But for many others, it may. I think an Aries will always be an Aries, a Pisces a Pisces, a Leo a Leo ..and so on and so on.

I really haven't, as yet heard 'any' personality descriptions given for the sidereal sign dates or any of the other 'constellation' theories. With new dates, should be new information. A Gemini can't suddenly turn into a Cancer. A Pisces into an Aquarius. It just doesn't make sense to me. The traditional 'tried & true' (Western Astrology) is by far the most credible, & proven; because people by the billions are actually living it everyday..

But anyway, it's all still an interesting read! =)

I took a second look at the link and the associated mythology - this constellation must be real and in this line a comparatively complex one although the constellation Ophiuchus must be genuine. Considering the mythology vague Scorpio/Sagittarius undertones - Scorpio animals being the spider, snake and the "serpent" these Scorpionic creatures. Chrion is associated with Sagittarius and in that brief mythological summary Ophiuchus is associated as a rescuer which could be characteristically Sagittarian an association with Sagittarius as a 'rescuer' sign. Chiron - Centaur - well Sagittarians are basically Centaurians but considering the duality of this sign we have Archers also - half human/half horse.

Someone once told me that astrology was nothing more than a bunch of very generalized statements that really anyone could fit the description of.

But Idk, I see it. The similarities in people of the same sign are striking at times...more than a conincidence.

The universe is about patterns after all.

But obviously, ultimately, your environment molds you into who you are.
