Out of orb aspects vs. Out of sign aspects?

This topic was created in the Astrology forum by PurrrrrrrrrrHissssssssss on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 and has 5 replies.
Which do you think is more important in the chart? Are they both important? Do they not even count? Let's say the luminaries/planets involved are the same, and neither is in its dominion, exaltation, detriment, or fall.
Example:
-Someone's Moon and Venus are both in Leo. However, the Moon is at 5 degrees Leo, and the Venus is at 27 degrees Leo.
22 degrees apart/Same sign = Out-of-orb conjunction
vs.
-Someone's Venus is at 27 degrees Leo (like in the first scenario), but the Moon is at 2 degrees Virgo.
5 degrees apart/Different signs = Out-of-sign conjunction

Thoughts? Do the houses make the difference?

I read somewhere orbs don't really put too much more preference on anything, though degrees do.

Just my amateur opinion but I think of the degrees as mattering more than the sign in an aspect. But I also like to play with interpretation based on how the energy flows in a chart rather than going strictly by hard and fast rules.

Yeah. I like to read the descriptions and place more emphasis on the ones that really accurately describe me...good or bad. Hahaha.
Hell, I actually often prefer reading the descriptions of the negative aspects. Reading the positive ones, it's like, "yeah, I know, meh." Reading the negative ones, it's like, "oh shit, I just got owned by an astrology website" and I'm impressed.

LOL Nice.
What do you think about the theory that we somehow choose our lives (charts) during the reincarnation process? I'm not sure I buy it because I can't imagine why in the hell we would intentionally pick to do some of these things...
Am I a neurotic control freak because my chart has OCD? Or do I have OCD because a neurotic control freak made my chart?

It is claimed we choose our place/time of birth and parents to ensure we learn the lessons we need to learn in this incarnation. Along this line of reasoning, you are a neurotic control freak because that is precisely what you need to be.

Not the answer you're looking for but another angle: Vedic astrology compared to western, even in different signs (usually the former) provide very similar if not identical aspects throughout, so I'll say the orb is more important than the position/planet in certain signs. Because orb descriptions in both forms of astrology carry similar traits.
On topic:
I'm positively aspected as an early first decan cardinal air, my father a late decan cardinal water, yet we get along reasonably well.

Ooh, good point! Makes perfect sense.
