Does social media ruin relationships

Does social media bring out insecurities in people

I've talked to happy couples who don't have each other on social media and are extremely happy & ive talked to others who constantly battle within their romantic relationship because of it.

1) Not if you don't let it.

2) More often than not, yes.

I can agree with you.

1. True, but it is a really stupid reason to bring problems into a relationship.

2. Fvck'n A it does!
It's so terrible how this can affect so many relationships out there that have the potential to be great together & all for pettiness on social media

Sort of. Social Media is more of an enabler than a true cause to the problem. These issues are always present. Social media simply brings them to the surface. To those who don't have these kind of insecurities, social media is shrugged off like a bothersome fly.

False. I wouldn't say that social media ruins relationships. However, if a couple already has problems and maybe even history of cheating, it can cause a lot of trust issues.

True. In my opinion social media is a fake world where most people wear a mask, they pretend they have a perfect and exciting life, they pretend to be bubbly, popular, friendly, and social even if they are not, they edit and photoshop their picture til you can barely recognize them, etc. If you are on social media too much you can easily feel that you are alone with your problems and everybody has more friends/is happier/prettier/more successful than you.

This video came to my mind:

Very true

Interesting facts

No

In insecure people, yes, but so does a lot of stuff.

My girlfriend and I are social media friends and have most of the same social media friends. It's never caused an issue.

It's awesome to have that type of relationship and rare I'd say. Very mature relationship to separate both things and use it respectfully of one another

I think it's common once you're in your 40s. Most people don't give a shit about petty things like social media once they reach mid-life. Maybe that's because we didn't grow up with it.

You would be surprised but I'm glad to hear there's couples like you that don't let it interfere

Well, I was in a very long-term relationship and am now in another. Most of our friends are also in long-term relationships. I guess that just makes things less messy than when people are dating a lot and trying to figure out their boundaries.

I wasn't single that long, but when I was casually dating, I never added them to my social media accounts. That shit is how I keep in touch with my grandma.

The mistake people make is setting boundaries and separating personal life from social like I can agree you have a good head on your shoulders with good decision making

It's like the "guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument.

It all comes down to how you use it. And if you add your partner on social media, or if you're continually trying to "find out what they're thinking and doing" through monitoring them on social media, imo you're just asking for a headache that doesn't need to be there because it's a completely false impression. I don't have any desire to get to know my partner in that way.

That last point is so important. Even the most open people are not showing who they really are on social media, unless they're jackasses. You can't get to know someone from stalking them on social media. It's best to not even look.

You can solely genuinely get to know a person by spending time with them. Social media is just a fraud.
