Water
On the balance Cancers are manipulative though am beware of the sharks as well - murky waters. And to me Scorpios have generally been like rhinos - dangerous but causing only a few accidents.
Fire -
Aries look the worst no doubt but its the Sags who are despotic and dangerous for society - good that they choose to remain aloof and mired in philosophical struggles. Leos are less fire and more flame.
Air -
I haven't had disliked any Aqua actually - innovative, fertile and friendly ( except for the leaders ). But Geminis represent the air well.

imho, off the top of my head ..
Fire - SAG (jupiter) - all the spirit, adventure & drive; minus the higher demands and competitiveness of Aries, and the more touchy ego-driven Leo.. (however, i do see Aries as the most representitive of Fire -the MOST fiery, followed by Leo.)
Earth - Taurus (venus) -easygoing, sensual -stop & smell roses, yet VERY strong & tenacious; minus the more nervous merc and melancholic, overworked saturn.
Air - very hard to call. (like air itself, their natures tend to merge somewhat invisibly.) However, i do see Aquarius as the ultimate to represent air. Libra & Gem sort of tie.. i really like the archetype of Libra- of ease, peace, justice and beauty..
Water - PISCES the watery fish are known to be the most representitive of water, and i agree. Combine that with the dreamy, mysterious, intuitive nature of Neptune.. The best of cancer can be ultra giving and nurturing, the worst can be bitter and never forget. The best of scorpio is the fiery passions of Mars that could perfect and affect anything they touch, the worst of Pluto can scare to the hills, but at the same time can be quite remorseful inside their complex inner sanctum.
