I have a tendency to buy more books than I read myself, at least at first. When I get a new book, I read a good portion of it, get bored, buy another book, but eventually finish the first one I bought, it just takes a while.
I'm addicted to buying books. Most of the books on my shelf are still unread. I have every intention of reading them at some point.... I just keep getting distracted by other things.
I have a book-buying addiction - I literally have to avoid half-price books, Borders, and Barnes and Noble (all within a mile of my apartment) just so I won't go in and blow half my paycheck. It's kind of sad. I've gotten better by going to the library more, but many of the books I want to read don't stay on the shelves very long...
I hate hate hate clutter but the one exception is my books. At least I stack them neatly. I hope one day to have a home that has a room in it that'll be just for my books. A library with a fireplace and a reading chair *sigh*
I 'buy' books with my library card, return them a fortnight or two later. And pay fines, mostly for late books.
I really dislike how books kept in mint condition (high upin bookself, unread) turn yellow like its been sprayed with urine. A waste of money, IMO. If I buy books, they must live forever, especially if I treat them well.
When they turn yellow or brownish, I feel betrayed. No, so the library for me, unless it's a book I'll refer to again and again. Or that its something Id relish havng in my library.
Needless to say, books I buy I read like a bit, because Library books are way more urgent.
I adore books. They're my friends, my comfort. It's a real joy to curl up with a good book and escape. No matter the topic. I scour yard sales, antique shops, ebay, second hand shops, etc. My babies are my older books. The oldest is around 1850 so far. But yes *pleased sigh* books are wonderful. Definitely addicted.
