I enjoy reading about monsters, dragons or other fictitious creatures..from myth, folklore, legends, &.

here are some books I have read recently..

1. On Monsters: An Unnatural History of Our Worst Fears
by Stephen T. Asma

..not so bad..has two parts..the first one deals with monsters from the ancient era..up to middle ages or so..lusus naturae..
the latter part features on somewhat modern (and modern notions) of monsters..like, socio/psychopaths..from darwinism up today

2. An Instinct for Dragons
by David E. Jones

..not as much good as the one above..seems & feels like an adolescent book..but has some funny anecdotes..like the story of a dragon named guivre

3. Fictitious and Symbolic Creatures in Art
by John Vinycomb

...a bit outdated, but quite concrete book..carries all necessary basic stuff..better than the second one above

I am going to read books by Joseph Campbell..only hope I have time..and enough concentration power lol I'm so scatter brained... :/

is there any one who has read this books?
if so, which book of his would you recommend the most?
and why?

also are you interested in mythical, fictitious creatures? 🙂

so below is the excerpt about the dragon, guivre (from the second book):

Early French history also resounded with the roar of the dragon. The guivre was a reptilian, horned monster whose breath was so toxic that when it touched humans, disease and plague followed. Most dragons, however, had some type of weakness that a potential slayer must discover. In the case of guivre, its flaw was revealed one day by a farmer who removed his clothes to bathe in a stream after a hard morning??s work. As he approached the stream, which unbeknownst to him was the home of the local guivre, it reared up from the water??s edge but quickly turned away when it saw that the farmer was naked. In fact, it even blushed. The inability to face the unclothed human body proved to be its downfall.

...what a way to defeat a dragon lol
maybe the dragon was virgin or something who knows.. 🙂
