I think there has been (or was/used to?) that vampire fads..recently
like twilight sagas?
haven't read it though
..although I've read few other/some books related to blood sucking creatures

1. Dracula
by Bram Stoker

..enjoyed it very much..more than I had expected lol thought it was going to be old, boring..but no, it wasn't

2. The Vampyre
by John William Polidori

..not really a novel, but rather a short story..so it was quick to finish this..at the same time quite entertaining itself

3. Interview with the Vampire
by Anne Rice
4. The Vampire Lestat
by Anne Rice

..although I enjoyed reading above two books..it's very probably that I won't read others of the same series..don't know why lol

5. Vampires: The World of the Undead
by Jean Marigny

..nothing new I have discovered from this book..but this one is one from the same series/collections of the book which I mentioned in the previous thread...so this book is also rich in its color illustrations

I have been reading The Vampire, His Kith and Kin, by Montague Summers..

are there any good vampire books you would like to recommend?
I would prefer research materials over fictions..
The thing about the Vampire is that it is a mythical creature that serves as a metaphor for certain kinds of real life personalities. You know, the kinds of personalities that suck energy out of people and benefit themselves. Any 'player' that uses girls is such an example.
I feel Vampires and Zombies are getting really overused today.

hahaha yes.. I have heard the expression..like 's/he's a vampire!' smile
I hope that there's a way to fend them off..besides those traditional garlics, crosses, silver bullets, holy water, &. smile

I don't know...in an era like this we're living in now..there is hardly any night..in its true sense exists no more... even at night, lives bustling, lights are on so brightly in many big cities .. lots of scientific discoveries have cleared of superstitions and superstitious beliefs from the old days..along way with some of our old faith (in God, or gods.. but then I have never been into religions, so I'm not an expert here hehehe) .. so in some sense we feel lost.. in the past we are taught and led to believe that there was a god (or gods, again), so things were probably way simpler.. one had probably a better idea of what to do with their lives ... like if you want to go to heaven, then go to church, pray, believe in your god.. be good to your neighbours, do some charity works, &.
we probably used to believe that, once, we were the children of the god.. so there would be a salvation for us..in the end
but now.. we are not sure any more...about ourselves, our existence.. we are free from the god (or gods..uhhh I really am not good at this am I not) but in the exchange of it we now have self doubts
I don't know...the archetype of vampires has been in existence for a long time..I heard it even went back to ancient Egypt or so...
but then it became really popular..sometime around early 19th century or so..in europe
I guess it has something to do with industrialization in that time..the period when science really started to prevail religion and people's lives changed so radically...so that they were not really sure about their identities any more..somewhat similar to us today
some people must have missed the old days..so maybe they began to take interests in things that had relations to of those days...like vampires..
or maybe despite all the progress in science and such, people's minds were still preoccupied with things from the past.. materials things might have moved forward..with a speed of which we had not anticipated..but our minds were a bit slow to follow..
like we live in this modern era but somehow still are intrigued with things like vampires, legendary, fictitious creatures..
of course they are not just some things themselves, but some kind of a reflection how human minds and psyche work..the way we look at them, react to them, how to differentiate ourselves from t
hem (in our attempt to build our identities in the opposition of the Other)
probably the reason why vampire and zombies are overused today is that we still don't know who we are

..lol what have I just written here?
@xxixxi
I actually just read "A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor and that story has a 'Vampire' like character in in a 'realistic' sense. You might want to check it out. But It's interesting to think about what astrological sign is most vampire like. I would say a negatively aspected Aquarius or Scorpio are the most Vampire like and Pisces are primarily what they prey on lol

If it's a sexy vampire I'm all good with it.

I wasn't sure if it'd be possibility of the existence of an attractive vampire after having read Dracula lol
that vampire count was...ugly lol (according to the book description that is lol)
John Polidori's vampyre is more aristocratic.. but still a ruthless villain nonetheless.. he killed a sister of the poor protagonist
I don't know..as far my imagination goes..I think their -vampires'- breath would probably stink..like a bit tangy, coppery, but old and decayed..taste and smell of blood that is
and I wouldn't really like the idea of kissing them lol
yuk!

The keanu reeves dracula movie had some pretty hot vampires. So does vampire diarys the show.

lol but then keanu reeves looks hot in other movies..not just as a vampire hehehe
and well..it's somewhat creepy that he has been looking the same over a decade or so.. :o
maybe he is the living vampire among humans lol
I haven't watched both the movie and the show you mentioned..
I probably won't have time to watch a long tv series..but probably can work around something for the movie..
but is it any good..besides having some hot looking vampire? I mean, story wise? smile
"Twilight" is the bane of intellectual enrichment. Avoid at all costs.
Sheridan LeFanu's "Carmilla" might interest you if you liked "Dracula." Really, I've never read a vamp novel as satisfying as "Dracula," but there are some good series out there. Dracula has been more and more romanticized and a lot of newer books reflect that.

yes, dracula surprised me lol.. thought like this 'hmmmmm I already am familiar with its plot (even though I had not read the book itself..count dracula is too famous..not have heard of him! smile) - should I still read the book??'
so I started with some doubts - but as I neared the final chapter of the book, I was glad I had decided to read the material smile
I will check out the book you mentioned..thank you for the recommendation! smile
