Cancer Loners....

Any Cancer Suns out there find themselves a bit detached? I have always been this way and I can't figure out if it's a Capricorn thing (Cappy is my ascendant), an only child thing, or a Cancer trait.
There are a lot of people in my life, and I am involved socially. But on an intimate level I enjoy being by myself. I always keep my friends at arm's length, and those that I am close too tend to be a child of mine (I have a 4yr old and a 12 yr old) or my BF. Other than that I am pretty content with being social on the surface or not at all.
I LOVE to go out and party - but more because the atmosphere is interesting. I will have colorful conversations with all sorts of people, but never intend to keep contact after wards. I guess it's just that I feel content being me.
Am I weird - er what? lol
You don't sound like a loner at all. And I don't mean just compared to me.
Hm. You sound very similar to my cancer bf. He has virgo rising.
I am a Leo and I am lot like this as well (except that I really like to make deep connections with people but, alas, I don't expect it).

And it's funny, because some people are so shocked by people who like to be alone. I'll hear things like, "What? You went out to lunch BY YOURSELF?!"
I'm not allowed to want a Togo's sandwich and go get one without inviting other people to come along? What the hell?

"Oh my, is something wrong? Let me take you out and cheer you up!"
I am a loner too..have friends and all but love my own company..My Crab is the same, needs lots of space. I hate sticky people and I sometimes don't answer the phone..I enjoy lonely activities such as walks with my IPod, and reading.
Been living alone more than 10 years...

i've always been wanting time to myself as well. i used to think it was a bad thing because i was told it was a bad thing, but ever since i haven't had anyone telling me... i started to realise that it's not a bad thing at all.
there have been times i haven't answered my phone and some people took that as ignoring them.. i would give them a warning, but it seems they hadn't heard it. one of those people was a pisces.. shame too because we got along great.

It's funny, when I was 12yo, a teacher was telling us about how wrong it is to want to be apart from others. There was a lot of technical mumbo-jumbo and the kids started asking me why I was like that and "wrong". I should be someone else, apparently.
I does make sense, though. Someone who stays away and doesn't share much of himself is a potential danger and should be ostracized. If you don't show constantly that you are not a threat, others will assume things. It's just animal instinct. The big dumb ape syndrome.
I tend to go through phases. When I want to be alone it can last for a week or longer and I like to stay lost in my world with no one bothering me. But then I come out of it and like need a serious hug!
Some people make others the center of their lives, and their lives revolve around other.
I believe your life should revolve around yourself, i know it sounds selfish but if you are not happy and enjoying yourself, how can you really love anybody in a healthy way?
I have a lot of fun by myself..I love cooking and enjoying a good movie with nice food and a glass of wine, by myself.
I love people and I have a nice group of friends but I always , after some time with them, need to be left alone and when I am back home I feelso much pleasure ....
I know this will be an obstacle when-if I ever decide to get married but well, solitude is so nice!
I never ever feel lonely.

This is ME to an absolute T. I don't considerate it selfish either. My life revolves around my family - but it starts with me. I must be happy/healthy/content inside first. Then I am ready to venture out and fuss over my loved ones.
I LOVE cooking along. I shew everyone out the kitchen when I cook. I have my glass of chardonnay, my music, and my studff to prep - it all makes me happy little crabby that's for sure!
I rarely feel lonely as well. I think that this is where that whole "AIR vs WATER" doesn't fit with me. My guy is an Air sign, and I enjoy the fact that he does his own thing when we are home together. We don't have to be next to eachother every minute.
If/when you end up with someone worthy enough to share your life - I bet you'll have one just like it! Until then I can't lie... I'm even a little jealous! I miss being single every so often, and being a one 'man' band is the only part I really miss.
I'm an Aqua and I'm this way so it's not just a Cancer thing...although I have a lot of cancer in my chart.
I'm like this too! I've been described by a few people as an "elusive creature". Which just makes me think of whales... Anyway, I enjoy going to lots of parties and socializing but there are only two people that I'm genuinely close to. My bf and my bff.
