That's perfectly fine I get it. But I'm not going to make a move on him or intervene that's not my nature. I still want to be friends we've know each other since we were kids. Can you just cut someone out like that? I've moved on was dating someone but it didn't work out and im doing my own thing. It doesn't make sense... I just can't drop a friend like that...

Well, it's not just dropping someone like that. Sometimes some distance/zero communication is needed, especially if he's already going through a lot. He doesn't need to think ill of you to want to keep his distance, quite the opposite. I take breaks from people all the time, so I can replenish and they don't get swept into my emotional tornado.

There's a big chance he won't cut you out forever, but he also might not make the first step in the future. Give it time before you contact him and once he knows/believes you're over him, you should be fine.
