getting closer to cancer leo man

Firstly, Hi to all of you, dear cancers! I'm new to this forum, I have read a few topics but I decided to create a new one because my situation is a little bit different.

I'm a taurus sun gemini moon woman and he is a cancer sun leo moon man. We have known each other for 5 years, I had a crush on him back in high school, but he probably doesn't know that. We were school mates in HS but 2 years ago our roads split and about 3 months ago we got in touch again thanks to our mutual friend. We meet each other almost every week for example on Saturday or Friday but alongside with a group of friends, never alone. Please advise me how to get closer to him? I don't want him to see me just as a one of his"beer buddies". How to "expand" my role, how to make him trust me and talk to me more often?

I just don't know... Am I weird or he is a specific type of a guy? 😄 When we're all together one minute he is joyful, talkative and the second he hides into his shell and he barely speaks, takes his phone and he cuts off from the world. After a few minutes "he is back" and talks like crazy. When we talk face to face he compliments me, asks about many things - what I want to do in the future, my current situation and what changed during these 2 years. I don't spill all the things at once and he doesn't know everything about me, but he knows like 70% more things about me than I know about him. He also asks a lot about my political views (all the cancers I know are really into politics - is it your thing or something? 😄). Besides that we laugh a lot. How to make him open up to me, to trust me?
