How long do I have to wait for this Cancer Man?

Him: (July 14th 1989) (Cancer)
Me: (November 24th 1987 (I'm a Scorp/Sag Cusp)

We met back in April (5 months ago) and have been hanging out - as friends, and we talk everyday. I have mentioned that I like him, and I tried to push him away because I was feeling extra negative lately and he reassured me: "I'm not going to run away or anything because you aren't happy. I really like you Seaclovers and I want to stick around and try to help make you happy."
We've finally hung out at his place - I've read that that takes a lot for a Cancer to do; bring someone over to their place- and the last 2 days hung out at his place watching shows and having a good time. We were cuddling practically the whole time we were hanging out at his place.
But I want to make sure I should be sticking this through. I don't know how deeply he feels about us. I want to think he is interested in dating me. But he will also go through spurts of sending me lots of little heart emojis and being super sweet, and then other times, like today, he isn't very commutative. I want to be sickly sweet with him, and continue on this little "love high" I got from hanging out with him for the past 2 days, but I see he wants his "me- time" which is fine, but I just want consistency, but I don't want to be overbearing.
How can I tell if he is interested?
Being a Fire sign, I want things to happen like an explosion! He wants things to take time - he has mentioned this to me in the past- but if I have to wait too long without knowing 100% for sure, then he's going to loose me.
I feel like him making me wait for him to make a decision is him keeping at his beck and call and he has the reigns on this relationship. BUT I'm almost 100% certain that if i were to change my mind and pursue someone else, it would CRUSH HIM.
I need help. I don't get it, and I'm super nervous that someone else is going to come along and sweep me off my feet, while he's been dragging his.
Should I wait it out? Should I just ask him - I'm afraid I will scare him off.
What are the signs that a cancer man really likes you and how long does it take for them to decide to have a relationship with you?

^haha. Uh cancers take their sweet ass time...but it's worth the wait...have patience if you really like him.

Also they do disappear from time to time so consistency doesn't always happen and being ok with that is important...
