Of course he says he loves you, he doesn't want to look like a total shit who would live with a woman for three and a half years and use her.
Thank God you called him on his crap and found out the truth. Now get your pretty head out of the kitty litter, stop being "confused" (a synonym for not wanting to face reality), and move in with your friend. BTW, you owe her a dinner, she saved your ass another three years of grovelling.
