In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, tied him to a rope in an art gallery, starving him to death. He called this a 'Visual Arts Installation'.
For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of the exhibition watched the shameful 'masterpiece' based on the dog's agony, until eventually the dog died.
Does it look like art to you?
But this is not all. A prestigious US Visual Arts Biennial decided that the 'installation' was actually 'art', so that Guillermo VargasHabacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008.
There is no way I can justify in my mind the life of an animal for the sake of people's reactions. If it is true the dog died, testing a reaction from somebody is not a justifiable reason. Stray animals are unfortunate, but a stray dog has many ways of surviving on the streets, not the least of which is scavaging for food from our wasteful lives. It is when an animal is forcibly tied and not feed or given water that it is cruel.
This is ugly. My reaction is that the artist is misguided and not creative. He set up a death lab for that animal, and lo! it likely died for his publicity stunt. Way to go. Here is my reaction.
i am all about art but that is disgusting. it isn't art it is animal abuse. but if it is considered art why didn't the artist tie himself up to the wall and starve himself instead of a helpless animal? hmmm
Okay....let's all slow down here..... when I read this it made me feel sick and I cried....BUT I also stopped to look it up and see if this is true... now here's the thing; Apparently what happened was the guy took a starving dog off the streets and displayed it during the day to show the hypocracy of the people who thought this was art but wouldn't look twice at a starving dog on the streets....according to the art gallery the dog was fed and cared for after hours and before opening...it was only made to LOOK like the dog was being neglected during the day - the reason the dog looks emaciated is because that is how he was found.
Also - the artist apparently is NOT planning on doing the same thing at this 2008 art festival which is taking place in SOUTH AMERICA NOT the US.
This was investigated by the local animal rights authority and they found no reason to believe the dog was actually neglected in any way.
Garfield....that is heartfelt and understandable...but....HE DIDN'T ABUSE THE DOG. It was a "hoax" to make it look like he did to prove a point.... the dog was not harmed and was fed and cared for during the hours the gallery was closed.
No, they said the dog ran away..... but at least he was fed and cared for for a few days. How would you make the point? by painting a picture of the dog being abused? that hasn't had much of an impact in the past.... but look at what's going on here, all the controversy is raising awareness isn't it?......
I know you love animals [so do I ] and I know you're sitting there picturing Tyler in that position, but remember the guy didn't do anything to hurt the dog - NOTHING, that's just the impression people were given.
