Will he come back?

I dated a Cancer guy for about 8 months. We broke up today. For the past month or two, he has been acting really crabby, negatively and it broke my heart to see him like this. I blamed myself for not being perfect enough. When we talked about the problem he told me that lately he's been unhappy because he has some problems. He didn't want to tell me what problems exactly, I only know that some of them are related to his family. That's very usual for his manly behavior. Anyway, we decided to be continue our relationship albeit crappy. That was really stressful for me and for him I think. After a week of crabbiness we separated as friends.
I feel kind of relieved because all of this uncertainty is over.
I know that he still likes me because he said it today and in my opinion the only problem is his own state of mind. Is it possible that he still wants me back after he deals with his problems?

He wouldn't tell me! But he'd seen that I was suffering because of his terrible emotional state and he told me that he doesn't want me to be sad because of him.
