I don't break down.
I just brood, and have nothing to say. (In the old cave)
My own mind exhausts me. I have to check out and recharge the battery.

Still got a way to go on the ears.
He's still in a rack, hopefully only one more week though -- to pull that left ear totally erect.

Moist, damp, closed up areas breed things. I figured a gal would understand that. HA - j/k
I hear what you are saying, and you view has gained and is still gaining in popularity.
My vet said that it is not even taught in Veterinary schools any longer, so the only way to learn is from an old school vet with experience. She learned from her mentor that is semi-retired -- and he was the best in the biz in my area. I got a 10% discount for letting her do the procedure while he supervised. She did a great job, too.
So, it seems to be a dying practice anyway. (prepare for backroom botched ear croppings going forward).
I respect your view totally, but I'd like to offer you this for your consideration (I don't think it will change your mind, but I had never even considered this angle).
My vet said that if she had a Dobie she would definitely have it's ears cropped (Classic Doberman look), for no other reason than it lets OTHERS know that this is a Doberman, not a hound or Lab, and it is not a dog to be taken lightly and to be a little more careful with. I thought it was an interesting point that she raised -- it being for the good of other humans.
Anyway, cropped or not, I hope you get your Dobie. They are a noble companion, and guardian -- either way.
