Nuclear War

Would we ever survive it? And will ever happen in an unsure amount of years? With my mom and dad growing up in the 50's and 60's, they had worry about nuclear war constantly from the USSR during the time. They even told me that in school they did exercises and drills for when a nuclear strike could happen on their city. I grew in the 90's up until no and I never worried about Nuclear war. Then again, some movies, books, and video games just make me say..... what if. What do you think will happen?
The worst of humanity will happen. Mass casualties. Even if one survived the intial blast, fallout, etc., they'd just lay down and die without their iphone to tell them what to do. Disastrous.
We've become too soft as a nation to survive such a disaster. The pussification of the USA will show up in full force.
Thank technology and it's advances.

I wouldn't say technology. I would say the politics is what turned us into pussies and the overliberalzation of simple laws and the idea that we're giving people too much freedom sometimes. But that's my opinion. But other than that, me might just be too reliant on tech.

Too much freedom isn't the problem. We have less and less of that every day, and as every little bit of that Freedom goes away, things continue to get worse.
If a nuclear war ever happened, I'm not so sure you'd want to be a survivor. Those who did manage to survive would have to deal with sickness, hunger, learning how to grow their own food, being able to defend themselves and that food, and a host of other problems. I'm sure some would survive, but not many. IMHO more would die in the aftermath than even in the attacks.
Think about this for a second - Our food distribution in most western nations these days works on a "Just in Time" model. Most stores only have a 3-5 day supply of food for normal circumstances on hand at any given time. So ask yourself, what happens when the infrastructure is suddenly crippled or broken, and the trucks full of food aren't rolling in, the power is off (no refrigeration), and those who survive start getting hungry?
Honestly those vaporized in the initial attack would be the lucky ones. Let's hope it never happens.

Agree with everything said here. The scary part is, it wouldn't take a nuclear war for that scenario to happen.
I think the running joke is the only thing that would survive, is cockroaches and keith richards from the rolling stones Tongue. An interesting television series that's predicated on this situation is Jericho. It's no longer on, but it takes a look at what issues might arise in the aftermath of such an event. It should still be on netflix.
An economic collapse is more probable captenn and cowpuncher. But I agree, I work for a company that utilizes the just in time principles. And due to the bad winter, they have had to call a number of days off work. All an individual has to do is look at how mindless and viscious individuals become on black Friday, for meaningless goods. Now think about how they would behave for the necessities of life like food, water, and medications. Imagiine the individuals, who are heavily addicted to prescription drugs or street drugs. That is why its important to keep up with the going ons of the political climate, otherwise we ignore them at our own peril.

In case a worldwide nuclear war happens and we survive, we may need to visit this place and get some seeds to start all over.

But you did have to worry about terrorist attacks.
Still a threat. Maybe not the cold war kind of threat/worry my generation grew up with, but a threat to our security none the less.

How many people would still know how to farm? to hunt? to can vegetables? to salt meat? Thank God, I was raised by parents who taught me and I'm in an area where people can still do these things. But I don't know how to make candles, soap, etc

I loved Jericho!!
I don't think it would be nuclear disaster or economic collapse. In my opinion, the most likely and realistic scenario would be pandemic illness. Antibiotics are already proving to be less effective.
As far as post nuclear disaster, we wouldn't be able to grow crops and the animal population would be almost non-existent. People would result to cannibalism. Anyone see "The Road". Very dark and solemn look at a post-nuclear war scenario.

I've heard of it. It was originally based on the book, it was pretty accurate from what I know. But the disaster wasn't specified. Which I could guess it may have been nuclear war.
