Recognition

How important is recognition to you?
I secretly love it, don't want a big tah-dah in front of everyone (maybe, I actually do....no, I'm embarrassed....grins inside), but I do expect recognition for accomplishments and extra projects. A simple thank you or aknowledgement is good enough.
For example, if a co-worker is on vacation and work is getting behind, and you fill in and help out voluntarily (not being asked to), do you expect some sort of aknowledgement for this? Of course, we have the side of us that says, 'the work must get done so it's expected and the right thing to do and shouldn't be recognized'. Then the other side is going 'I busted my butt covering for you and NO ONE (not even the boss or co-worker) even aknowlegded my help, so next time I'll just do my own work unless I'm asked to help' (passive agressive kicks in).
I'm not talking about the kind of work that people are territorial over, it's more production based and if you pitch in and do extra to keep things from getting behind.
What are your capricorn thoughts on this. Personally, I expect the boss to aknowledge because she/he should appreciate that your pitching in makes them look good to their bosses because production did not lag (otherwise they'd get fussed at).
Add other examples if you want.
Discuss away....

I was just watching an interview with Erica Hubbard(Cappie). She's an actress, but in the interview she talks about how she started a foundation to give back.54:00 mark
It made me think of all the Cappie celebs I know with that desire to go back to where they are from and give back, and just really be involved. Its a common thing amongst them all...like literally.
The best feeling in the world is giving back and helping people in general. Cappies, believe it or not, have A LOT to give.
Yes, with charity, I'd rather remain anonymous. I want to do it out of the goodness of my heart, not for the recognition.
I think people that their names plastered across the side of a building are tacky and crass. They do it for the recognition and to "be somebody" so everyone knows their name.
Outside of charity, recognition should be given. If not recognition, then gratitude. It's important to my core being and makes me want to continue to go over and beyond. It feeds my drive, I suppose. I could easily stagnate in a company where credit is not given to those who deserve it. My favorite stories are of the janitors, for instance, who "save the day" or go out of their way to provide excellent customer service. That's what keeps the minions minioning. smile
I think it boils down to the actual work we do we need to feel valued (for our paycheck), our charity work (not that it is not actual work) we feel good about ourselves, we know we are doing good, we know the value of our efforts in and of itself. But, I'm only speaking for myself. I find great satisfaction in my advocacy/rescue efforts as I believe that I do make a difference - not so much with work, just another cog (although I do like my job).
