That's why you only sport the heels when you mean it and when you know you're not gonna be doing a lot of running/walking around.
I understand your conundrum but I honestly can not give you any positive feedback on how to work the real you until I actually see you in person. I would need to see your dimensions and the way you carry yourself. I would have to get a feel for your personality. You said something about artsy so I would stick with colorful, creative streaks while giving it a womanly boost.
Hell, I'm 28 and I'm similar to you. I LOVE color and I live in Seattle where the main theme is black. I have my own sense of flair and I am able to incorporate my quirkiness into an overall sophisticated package. I personally love heels but I don't wear them even most of the time.
I hardly spend any money on clothes and I slowly build to my wardrobe over time with classic pieces. Then I throw in the random, weird shit I like and put it together. I've been recycling and reusing most of the same articles of clothing for the past 10 years. No one notices and I have a lot of the same people in my life to this day. Always look into the thrifty, second-hand stores first. Consignment shops, garage sales, and go through any hand-me-downs that people throw your way. I started purposefully shopping in these places since I was 14. Back then it was because I was in the punk scene and it carried its own "cool" appeal (you know, the whole anti-establishment, anti-corporate america, angsty teenage thing).
Your style as a woman is going to take some time to hone. You're only 19 and just now coming into your own. I didn't really have a strong sense of my fashion development, or truly embrace my femininity until I was in my mid-20's. In my early 20's I still had a kid-type look and a kind of party-girl appeal. So, take your time and experiment. What really got me out of that phase is when I actually spent some time trying on a plethora of clothes with cuts I've never tried and just trying on things that never even crossed my mind before. It really showed me how my body is formed and what flatters my figure best. Happy hunting!

Hi Dianasart! I like ninjamu's post and am right there with you on the heels. I've NEVER worn heels, and I'm twice your age. When I need some fancy footwear, I use platforms instead of heels. They give you some height and some class without wrecking your feet (I'm a massage therapist and I've witnessed plenty of mangled feet from heels!)
I would recommend that you look for someone around you who's style you really admire. Or, you could find someone in an outfit you like in a magazine or online. Then, go down to your local thrift store and try to find pieces that give you that look. You will have to make adjustments for your body shape, colors that look best on you, and the selection of clothing available. I did this when I was first searching for my personal style , and I quickly learned what made sense for me and what didn't.
