After the baby, what can I do about these stretch marks. My friend swears by the Palmer's cocoa butter, but do you ladies have any recommendations?

If you're still pregnant ...start using it now..Winking
lazer treatments really work but find a good doctor and it might be a little expensive.
I used the cocoa butter stick while I was pregnant, every day, until I delivered.
I also only gained 25 pounds with my pregnancy.
I do not have any stretch marks.
I think as long as you don't gain that much weight, your skin will go back to normal after.
They say it's genetic, but both my mom and sister have terrible stretch marks, while I have none.
My sister's are the worst I have ever seen. She gained 65 pounds with her first child. They both also had 3 children each. I only have 1.
My best friend doesn't have them either but she only has 1 child, and again, gained maybe 35 pounds or so.
Physiologically, everyone's skin has a certain amount of elasticity. Some people can end up steering clear of stretch marks due to genetics, and others cannot.
However, I have heard of many women who were religious in using cocoa butter/lotion to keep the skin soft and pliable so it was able to stretch without much strain on the tissue.
Other than that, it's all on your genes.
Thanks Ladies and gentleman, I've been using the cocoa butter religiously, but I was just wondering if there is anything else I should be doing. The weight issue was important, thanks for letting me know about that, I have less than 2 months left and I gained 22.4 lbs.
If its really up to my genetics then im screwed...my mom has them, but she said she had them before she got pregnant. I didnt have any before now. ugh!
I really hate this wait and see crap, I dont have the patience.
I heard about that bio oil too. Thanks Starlover, I will check that out.

Congratulations smile
Vitamin E oil will restore your skin and improve the appearance. Massage into your skin daily.

thanks smile
I think I can make a lotion out of this in the lab, does it have to be straight from the capsule to be effective?
I'll do some research, because my grandmother swears by vitamin E. she used to rub it on me when i was younger.

Moisture moisture moisture. Keep your skin hydrated. Drink lots of water and use the creams or Palmers. But also like cap girl said, watch your weight. A lot of women think they 'eat for two' when pregnant, but really you just need 500 at most extra calories in the last two trimesters. Exercise works well too, and is actually encouraged so long as you don't have any pre existing conditions. Don't worry about working out too much or anything, studies show the only level of exercise that could cause harm in healthy mothers is on the Olympic athlete level, lol.
The women I know that had the worst stretch marks really packed on unnecessary pounds during the pregnancy, sort of using it as an excuse to fill any craving and not exercise or do much. Its easier to get into shape if your active during pregnancy too.
If you already have stretch marks, like around your thighs or arms, then there might not be much you can do though. Some people just get them more easily than others.
And congratulations! I didn't know you were pregnant! Yay!

Thank you! Big Grin

I know, it's sucky. We talked about it in one of my physiology classes. I forgot why it came up, considering it was exercise phys, haha. But athletes get stretch marks too, so it could have been why it came up. I have a few on my hips/thighs since I started playing soccer during a growth spurt. Thankfully, they're really light and I'm already light skinned, haha.
I wonder if keeping water intake high will help too...
high water intake? mmmm, guess we will see im going to try it.
I dunno. Haven't looked it up, haha. Considering plenty of water helps the skin do its job, it would make sense if it helped things along. *shrugs*
My suggestion outside and inside.
Inside - Diet - no processed foods. Eat lean protein, good fats (nuts). Plenty of fruits and vegetables. drink half your weight in ounces of water.
Outside - Use Black Soap, Shea Butter soap. Immediately moisturize with lotion that contains vitamin e. Go to your local health food store and buy Sweet Almond Oil (lightens marks and scars on skin)
You can combine it with your lotion or mix it half/half with Olive Oil and rub it all over your body after your shower. Massage it into your skin. Do your research on Sweet Almond Oil. It works.

Nope, not true. My friend had twins and gained 85 lbs and not one stretch mark. I had a singlton and gained 40 and my belly looks like it was shredded. Some are blessed with skin that can handle the fast stretch and others, no.
Bio oil is good for all scars as they fade over time but you have to use it religiously to take an effect and it doesn't completely get rid of stretch makes just the shine of them??_.
if your stretch marks are really dark you could use skin bleach to lighten them, theres a product that old people use on their hands to lighten the sun spots that old people get.
Pregnancy stretch marks are a normal effect of the skin around the abdomen stretching out to accommodate a growing tummy. It is possible to avoid and lessen the appearance of stretch marks if you act early in the pregnancy. Learn basic steps to prevent stretch marks with life style changes, a new skin care regimen, and practicing maintenance after the baby is born. One Eat a skin-nourishing diet. Two Stay hydrated and Three Exercise during pregnancy.

During pregnancy it is best to ask a pharmacy prepared in 50% -50% glycerin and rosewater. It gets every day after shower with wet skin to ... maintain skin moisture, flexibility.
And drink water, eat enough beneficial fat, avocados, olive oil, etc ...
