So..I need to get back into cooking Big Grin. I am usually lazy to do it for myself but I love cooking for others.
Recently bought this and feeling excited over it:

Could you kindly share a list of books or links or anything you'd like Big Grin?
Looking at VB, Rabbit, cowpuncher and others Big Grin
I suck at cooking, but have had success making dishes out of a book called American Masala. The food is a blend of American and Indian influences.
Thank you J9.
You really studied there? I wanted to but it seemed too expensive when I was 19.
Thank you lots, feel free to add more if you have the time/if you're so inclined.
How Cancerian of you Big Grin

Any good Rustic/traditional recipe books too?

I can cook Romanian dishes for you Fox...as soon as you change your perspective on the Virgo/Pisces axis *looking at you grudgingly*
Oh and I hear you on the knives..it's expensive but it's a solid investment. I will get there.
Any ideas there J9?

Last piece of advice, VB knows her shit.

I have been lurking on this board a lot. I saved each advice I could get from VB.
Trying to lure her here Big Grin
And thank you Crab. Hope you'll decide to wander around here again smile
Ach du mein Gott, if I listed all my books..
I haunt charity shops, yard sales, antique shops and ebay for cookbooks. My favorites are 1800s-1950s and those gorgeous things that have fueled family and friends for decades: hand written notebooks and tins stashed with recipes.
These have provided me with my version of pornography for over 30 years. I have had the best results for canning and preserving all our jams, jellies, pickles and preserves from 30s-40s.
My forte is comfort and homely fare. Just filling and tasty. Most times economical as well.
Fresh fresh. I plant a garden every year and have fruit vines and canes as well. Underwent a move recently and I will miss my established peach and plum trees. I will plant here but it will be some time for heavy crop.
I do not strive for complicated, I strive for memory and all the gorgeous feeling associated with it.

Three well thumbed books I love are:
The American Woman's Cookbook, 1938 first print.
The Good Housekeeping Cook Book, 1942.
Farm Journal's Complete Pie Cookbook, 1965. One of my Grans books.
YESSS I lured you in here.
Thanks VB! Big Grin

What really got me started is the old tried and true Better Homes and Garden's cookbook, the big red and white checkered one in a three ring binder. Otherwise I just collected smaller cookbooks as i went along, seeing this or that here and there, and just grabbing it.

I have that one!
