Catching a Curve Ball

So I am wondering if anyone else in this forum has scoliosis, specifically levoscoliosis - but if you have any of the other forms, you're welcome to this thread too.

I'd like to know if any of you who have this condition have a regime that you follow, to prevent the curve from getting worse as you age?

I was seeing a physiotherapist for 3 months earlier this year. He gave me a regime of exercises to follow, with emphasis on maintaining my weight (weight gain causes stress on the spine).

But how about diet, posturing yourself in other aspects of your life (e.g. sitting, standing, sports etc.)? How do you do it differently?

IDK..but take care, ram!
Wrote a gigant post that dxp ate, so this is the short version of it.

I have it in a very mild version(don't know the type, though.) I found out as they were doing a spinal tap on me.

1. If they ever do a spinal tap on you, make veeery sure they know you have scoliosis beforehand, or it may get extremely painful.

2. When I discussed it with my doctors, they said they thought I had been helped by a coat. Yup. Years ago, I had a coat with a wide belt that pretty much forced me into a good posture. After just a few days of owning it, I started to keep that up even when I wasn't wearing it. I even used to get compliments for my posture.

So, please take a look at your clothes. You don't want to take it to a point of straining yourself, ofc, just using them as something that unconsciously reminds you to have a good posture.

I know this is not much, but it's all I've got.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this and I really hope you find lots of great ways of making this as easy on you as possible!

Your coat sounds like a softer version of the back brace that is normally recommended for patients in their teens and late teens. Since I am way past that age group I don't think it can help much at this point.

Does it look something like this?

However, I have been told that wearing corsets helps with posture.I've been wearing steel-boned corsets for years now, BUT not on a daily basis as it wasn't recommended (also extremely uncomfortable to wear for long periods.

No need to be sorry lol. I've learned to handle this condition pretty well, just wondering if there are other options I could try, apart from what I know.

Not even a little bit. I explained that horribly. Sorry.

At that time, I didn't even know I had scoliosis, or maybe I didn't, at that. The coat I was referring to was a normal winter coat with a wide belt that made me conscious of my posture, and being a winter coat, I obviously didn't wear it all the time. Just thought it may possibly help to wear clothes that makes you unconsciously think about your posture. But, seeing as you already wear corsets, that was of exactly no help. Sorry.

Well, that's all I had, except...I'm sure you have a physical therapist to help you?

All the best!

have you tried a chiropractor and massage therapy at all ? just to keep things as much on a preventive level ...

Chiropractor is in my plans. So far it's been physiotherapists, which have helped but I think don't really address the issue directly.

not sure what chiro can or does do for that diagnosis but get a good one - I've been going just for general overall health for 30 years - massage therapy helps - again keep at it until you find someone you really like and gel with ...
