i stopped taking birth control pills the other month (after like 9 years) because i started seeing little spots on my face (this happened to my sister and a couple lose friends of mine too). it's not bad and pretty much im the only person who notices but it was enough to drive me insane and i saw it happening slowly over the last year so i quit. my boyfriend told me recently that i act different being off them and he noticed the difference INSTANTLY and it was a complete 180. he said im not moody or overemotional or irritable and i dont get crazy about lame stuff and i don't cry when i accidentally spill water and just a whole bunch of other little things i thought were just part of my personality but apparently not so much. i didn't notice the change in myself until be pointed it out but the mood swings really have gone away. i would get depressed about something so small and then 3 seconds later id be happy as a lark. i guess it's not an aries thing, or a gemini rising thing.

has anyone else ever seen/had this happen? i don't know why this shocks me so much but it's crazy how something like birth control pills, which are so common, can make such a difference.

One second thought....Hmmm tmi?? lol Oh well, you'd find the same symptoms if you looked them up 🙂 Just being honest!

it's not tmi. ive been looking at non hormonal options and the iud is something ive been considering for a while. ive read hundreds of message boards and a lot of women were saying that their insurance didn't cover iuds and they ended up having to shell out between $ 500- $ 700. i have good insurance but i looked it up anyways and it turns out mine won't cover it either. i'm also a major baby in terms of medical procedures...and i mean MAJOR! sidestory- i got my first cavity a couple months ago and getting it taken out was a big to do. i scheduled one appointment, showed up and was freaking out and spent 30 minutes trying to talk the dentist out of doing it so he sent he home with a prescription for valium and made me reschedule, so a month later Gemini had to drive me to the dentist because i couldnt drive myself and he knew id ditch. but yeah, i still want the iud despite the fact that all the stories i read about them on the internet are horror stories (seriously, nobody ever writes about the good experiences they have!). ive never had cramps before either so i dont really know what's considered bad or not bad. most people sat the discomfort is temporary though so i feel confident that i could work through it knowing there's light at the end of the tunnel

I used to have a friend that was on deperoprevera [sp—] and she was always in a crappy mood, cranky, and yelling at everyone....then she stopped it and her moods changed drastically. She was still a bitch - but less of one 🙂

the shot made quite a few people i know gain tons of weight. i'm kinda not down with that, but i suppose having a kid would make me way fatter than a shot haha

I was on the patch a good portion of last year, and while I liked it, and noticed it helped with my depression/insane pms that made me more depressed, it was kiiiillling my sex drive like crazy. I waited it out and waited for my body to adjust, and overall I was fine with it. Except for the freaking sex drive. My bf at the time felt awful because right in the middle of sex, it's like poof, gone. I was fine, but my body had other ideas. "Okay, I don't wanna anymore." I finally said to hell with it and switched to the ring, which was just as convenient but lower dose. TOTAL 180, and I noticed a difference immediately.

However, I think that because it's lower dose, I'm getting some of the moodiness you mentioned. I'm not sure since I've only been through one 4 month round of rings, and am gonna wait it out another 4 for me to see how it's going. But I've been through all this emotional bs when I started them so I'm just gonna see if it's that or them.

What you described isn't that unusual though. I know that in my case, part of the reason I got on BC was because of my depression/pms making my depression worse, etc. It's actually helped and done the opposite, but I do notice a bit of a difference when I'm on my no ring week sometimes. *shrugs* Hormones do that to you. Awesome things females get to deal with. 🙂

my doctor actually gave me a prescription for the patch but i never filled it. i considered the ring but i kept having this vision of a Ring Toss and i decided i didn't want to go through with it

Aw, that's a shame. The ring has been okay for me so far. Once I got past that first 4 months, I haven't had any moody issues since. It's really nice and convenient. You don't even notice it if it's put in right. Don't feel it during sex, either.

i may actually cave and ask my doctor for a prescription for the ring. the not being on birth control is really taking a tole on the amount of sex being had. shockingly, i might hate condoms more than gemini does 😕 . also, gemini's best friend (another gemini) just got his sagittarius girlfriend pregnant recently and i think he's extra paranoid. i don't think it helps either that his dad is OBSESSED with us having babies RIGHTNOW and he talks about it everyday

^^^^^that didn't freak me out so much. most the the bad stuff with IUD's is temporary and i was willing to suck it up and give it a go. but i got cold feet when i stumbled across a message board where seriously thousands of girls were talking about how the IUD made them smell and how at first they thought the people sitting around them in class or at work smelled until they realized it was coming from them and they all had these crazy hourly routines to keep their snatches from smelling like a rotten fish thanksgiving feast. i was officially traumatized and since my insurance wouldnt pay for the IUD i decided it wasnt worth the risk or the money. i know that most people dont comment on those birth control message boards unless they have something bad to say but that was the final straw for me lol

here's just one of the message boards i found on the IUD smell but im never sure how seriously to take this. i talked about it with gemini and he was like "don't do it!". i was surprised that a blue shield ppo wouldn't cover an IUD but insurance companies are picky about stuff related to womens health. i remember when that shot for HPV first came out i wanted it asap and i had to pay for everything out of pocket because the insurance wouldn't budge (i had blue cross at the same). i'm sure they all cover it now though

Yaz and the ring have the most good reviews as far as I know.

The IUD, if you can get past the few months pain... by the way, some of the pain lasts for nearly a year... also to be honest with you, the pain is NOT funny. It is beyond pain... can't really describe it but everytime the pangs comes, you just cry like a baby with this confused WTF look on your face. After that, you are golden 😄

The nasty smell part is new to me, never had that or heard of it before...

Patch was supposed to be good but all I got was blinding headaches, turned out to be too strong.

Ever heard of the implants? Implanon? Except for the potential scaring, this one's got not-so-bad reviews either.

^^^^^well yeah, most strands of HPV go away on their own but the vaccine also protects you from genital warts. now, call me crazy, but i'd rather spend $ 300 bucks on a set of 3 injections than contract a raging case of glamorous genital warts which, like herpes, never goes away. also, once you get a flair up the warts, they dont go away unless you have a doctor remove them. thanks, but no thanks!!! the HPV vaccine also protects you against some of the strands of HPV that cause cervical cancer. it's always a crapshoot with vaccines and there's lots of people who are against them for their own reasons but ive nevr had any adverse effects from a vaccine and if it lowers my risk of getting cancer then i'm on board

and the abnormal cells are often precancerious cells when you're dealing with HPV. my virgo bestie found out she had HPV last summer and they had to do a procedure (which she said was very very painful) to burn them off but it can always come back (once you have this strand of HPV it never goes away). men can be carriers and never know it but they do pass it to a female. my virgo friend goes to the doctor annually so she didn't neglect herself. my younger sisters roommate had the precancerious cells as well and i have another close friend that this happened to also (coincidentally another virgo).

its not THAT rare if i can think of 3 people off the top of my head that had precancerous cells due to HPV.

the condom argument is a good one. it's right up there with promoting abstinence in high school sex education classes 😉
some people listen, some don't. condoms are great for one night stands but since most people aren't having those, it's way harsh to say that somebody deserves what they get because they don't always use them when they're in a relationship. in the case of my virgo friend, she contracted it from a guy she was in a 5 year relationship with (nobody cheated, it's just one of those things).

Its wierd how different people react differently to contraception. the worst pill i have ever been on is cerazette (same hormone that is in the implant) it gave me severe depression and anxiety and i put on 2 stone, didnt even realise it was the pill at first because I was to happy over the fact that you dont have periods on them! as soon as i came off it i dropped a stone in a month!

Also the Depo shot, made me so aggressive! i actually threw my boyfriend at the time down the stairs! and he was a 6ft2 well built guy, had some super strength on that injection!

I am now on Yasmin (similar to YAZ) it has cleared up my skin and for the first time on a pill i am able to lose weight. it also made my boobs grow 2 cup sizes so im on target to be slim with huge boobs so absolutely no complaints! I am also really happy now i am on there, spent so much time crying on cerazette i forgot what i was actually like before.

It is also ok to triple pack them so only have 4 periods a year which is all good for me 🙂

but like they say everyone is different
