For all my fitness freaks out there, is it possible to look like you lost weight but really gained weight? Lately everyone has been telling me I lost weight and in reality Ive gained it. Yes I try to get 30-45mins in when I can, use to be 5 days a week now im lucky to get 3 due to change in schedule. I am seeing a change in what I eat but cheese burgers and other junk is still my weakness Sad is it possible that Ive lost inches or something? Please educate me lol
Had this discussion with my gf's this weekend. 1 kilo or 1 pound is exactly that, so the theory that muscle is heavier than fat is wrong.
However muscle is more compact in space than fat, (volume) so if you are gaining muscle and losing fat you will appear slimmer or to have lost weight.
Wouldn't that work the other way?
You look like you lost weight because you've lost fat (or became more toned), yet you have gained muscle which would result in a weight gain.
You slipped in before me sweethearts smile
Ahhh I never thought about gaining muscle! that could very much be it, things do appear to be toner in certain areas even though the scale says I gained weight I cant see a huge difference in my clothes, I think because I know ive gained weight I become self conscience and start to see things that arent really there. What are your opinions on weighing? I think I might be slightly obsessed with my scale

Let me ask you this. Have you gained any muscle mass?
Muscle mass is more dense than fat. Think of a 1 lb of feathers vs. a 1 lb brick. Those both weight exactly the same but the brick is far more dense. Same shit with muscle versus fat.

Yes I am heavier then I was last year, but my clothes say otherwise. I am very petite, but muscle ways more then fat..I don`t go by the scale, go with how your body feels, and how your clothes fit
Also keep in mind your water intake. You actual weight can vary 3-5 lbs. based on how hydrated you are as well as your clothing.
@VH I do drink a lot of water. I try to drink as much water as possible

Your question pops up every so often on the forum and I always like to remind them that whatever your target goal is....
Whether you're looking to gain mass...
Drop some weight...
Get more definition...

Whatever it is, generally speaking 60% of it is dictated by your diet. The exercise portion only accounts for 40% of your goal.
Also, everyone's busy with their respective lives and it's harder for some to maintain a healthy food regiment. If you do have to throw down a quick burger or two during the week...
-Don't get fries. Worthless calories. A lot of places allow you to substitute a salad for fries now.
-Don't get a soda.
-Order it without mayo. Mayo is A SHITLOAD of just junk calories that your body will just end up storing as fat.
-Cut the burger in half. Eat half now and half later.

fitness freak checking in. it is possible that you have lost muscle and look like you have lost weight because remember that muscle weighs more than fat. try to clean up your diet as what you eat is more important that how much you work out when it comes to fitness. try to get at least 45 min of cardio a day and throw in some weights at the end. get rid of the hamburgers and what not. get on lean protein, greens and moderate carbs.

As you can see, she even comments on diet impact on your target goal. I couldn't agree with her more.

60 minutes of cardio daily is ideal for weight loss.
I'd hope so. It's the general guideline of the American College of Sports Medicine. :p
