Leo man and Aquarius female help

Long story short I met my leo and hit it off great he really made the effort to get to know me and be romantic. I had just gotten out of a marriage and he had just got out of a relationship after he started talking to me (she moved). I said at the beginning that I was looking for a fling but it might change and he basically said his intention with me was to make sure I took him serious and earn my trust. After 12 months I ended up leaving the place where he worked and he started to get distant. I let him know my concern and he let me know it was because he was focusing on his career and himself. Well I guess I was really pushy in starting a relationship with him and pushed him away. This past two months we’ve been trying to compromise but I ended texted him this “ I don’t want it to ruin the days either... but can you just make it clear to me if all you want is a friendship?
It’s okay if you do, but you need to tell me so I don’t feel like I’m being led on into something that I’m imagining.“.
And he responded with this “ Yes that’s what I want for right now. It just is better it won’t be healthy for anything more... but that doesn’t mean like poof my feelings are gone they’re still there I can’t do anything about that. I don’t intend to change tho I can’t not talk to you or want to hang out or see you I’m sorry like I’m just saying I can’t provide what it is you want right now”.
Would it hurt his feelings if I moved on or does he expect me to wait until his ready for something more?
