I know how important your sun sign is, but how important are rising signs? Should we really put a lot of effort into knowing someone's rising? So many people don't even know what time of day they were born. Do you think rising signs are a major part of our personalities?
Thanks guys. SC, I'm a Scorpio rising as well.

Leo Sun ans aquarius rising.
Libra, cusp of Virgo
Pisces Rising opposing my Sun
i think rising signs do hold a lot water because it sets up your chart and the houses where your planets reside. it's often described as 'our mask' because this is how we initially respond to new stimuli, but it's also our personality because of the house system. i'll use myself as an example. i'm a scorp ascendant with virgo sun in the 10th. the sun is my core character, but with scorp ascendant, i become an "intense" (for lack of a better word) virgo, and since it's located in the 10th, an angular house, i take the initiative and become a leader (whereas virgos are known to be followers). kinda boring since virgo, scorpio and capricorn mesh well together, lol.
in terms of synastry and composite readings, i also like to see where my planets and my partners planets fall in each of our respective houses. if his moon falls into my 4th, then there is emotional security and understanding. if my saturn falls in his 8th, some delay or restraints when it comes to intimacy. but if my mars falls into his 5th, fireworks are bound to happen once the saturn in the 8th is overcome. bottom line is, the ascendant does have an impact in your character and personality. and as you stated ladylion, not a lot of people know what time they were born, but there is a method to narrow it down by doing a chart rectification and the technique is a bit confusing. you need to know the dates of any important event (like graduation, wedding, etc.) of the person in question and look at the transits for those days against their birthdate. another method is called horary astrology, where it requires you to be very well-versed in natal astrology since it serves as the foundation for horary astrology.

I'm curious as to how a graduation date or wedding date can help rectify a chart. It seems that those are arbitrary dates that have no direct correlation to someone's birth time.
those dates have significance in a person's life, and thus, you would need the transits for those days to see any specific correlation to your birthdate. i'm not that great at chart rectification because i find it rather difficult. but if i remember correctly (don't quote me on this, lol), the birthtime can be determined when a transiting planet makes a strong aspect one of your natal planets, and all this depends on what the date pertains to. horary is much more straight-forward with a yea or nay answer, but you need to be very careful and specific with your question, and there are certain rules that must be followed of course.
