libra ascendant

Does anyone know what an ascendant in libra means exactly? I've read a lot about it, but it's quite abstract.. For some reason I'm glad my ascendant is in libra. Libras are so sophisticated!
My ascendant is also in Libra and this is the most understandable description I've come across..
