Anybody Want to Talk Tarot?

This topic was created in the Metaphysical forum by 000sillylion000 on Monday, June 13, 2016 and has 36 replies.
I love reading cards, and I recently bought a new deck after 10+ with my Rider Waite. THIS NEW DECK FEELS SO WEIRD! Anybody else run into that, and what did you do to get around it?

Or just random thoughts on tarot as meditation?
Want to do a reading for fun with me?

Ive never tried it.

I got some cards years ago but couldn't get the hang of it as far as reading them

I don't know how good it would be with the new deck. It's like a friggin' foreign language. I could do a quick 3 card for you if you wanted with my old faithfuls; may take 20 or 30 minutes, though, because I'm actually supposed to be grading end-of-semester essays... I have three left, and it feels like damn Everest (x_x)

What's your question?

May I ask what you did to start learning them? Do you still want to?

I feel like I suck at it or I can't find the answer to any question. I had a friend I met online kinda show me but she only had enough patience for herself. She said it was draining. I bought a book and also looked up stuff online. I put the cards away 10 years ago and never looked back.

Damn, that's what I really need. Or Keanu Reeves... meoooow.

Sure. It'll have to be a short 3 card, and I can't promise I can get to it in the next hour, but I'm happy to try. What's your question?

That makes me sad that your friend found it draining... it took me a good year before I felt pretty confident in what I was doing, and several years after that to build up a really strong rapport with my cards. I think the most important thing is realizing that you are the filter and the conduit -- so the meanings in books and the meanings on the internet might not always work for you. I doubt you suck at it; I think we all have the innate ability to receive guidance and messages, but I can understand packing up and moving on.

If you ever wanted to give it a go again, though, I'm happy to help.

No problem. GIve me 20, and Jesus, I wish it was my final. I, unfortunately, decided to get a Master's degree in English, and my penance post-graduation, many years later, is to be stuck grading essays until I get a real big girl job or finally sell something I've written Sad

I love to use the numerology and astrology with them,it adds more layers. I always use clarification cards on top also to see what the original spread of cards is about,looking more in depth at the situation.

Me too! That really does add a profound amount of information overall, and yes, my interpretations based on the cards shift as well too, the more I grow and change. How did you handle the different decks or know which ones to use for what questions? I'm having a hard time with my new one (the Wild Unknown). They're beautiful, but their illustrations are fairly bleak or scant. They rely waaaaaaaaaay more on color than RW; I feel like I'm going to have to learn auras, which intimidates me a bit for some reason.

@mohini

Alright -- so, this is my first time reading on DXP, and I'm super nervous because I want you guys to like me, rofl. So I apologize if this doesn't resonate or resound. I've also been grading all day, so while I feel good and clear... there might be some hidden angst that bubbles up. This is how I set-up my cards for a quickie: 1 (2) + 3 (4) + 5 [6]

1. Past --> Tower
2. Clarifier --> 7 of Pentacles

3. Present --> 3 of Pentacles
4. Clarifier --> 9 of Wands

5. Future --> 10 of Cups
6. Clarifier --> Knight of Swords

So, in the past, I think you had a rough go of it. The Tower is positive in the sense that new growth forms from tilling soil... but the toil that gets tilled.... well, that's some serious upheaval. With the 7 of Pentacles there too, I think it was maybe a relationship you were betting on or putting stock in. You'd done your "time" so to speak, and then there was a pretty serious shake-up. Not an ending per se... I don't feel like it's a fight-based break-up or a break-up in the traditional way, but definitely something that made that relationship non-viable.

Right now, in the present, the 3 of Pentacles with the 9 of Wands comes up. I think that you might be opening yourself up more to others, trying to bring in love -- but not necessarily romantic love. The 3 is more about teamwork and cooperation, and when paired with the 9, I think that you want to extend yourself in terms of friendships and making lasting bonds, but it's damn hard. The 9 is the bruised and battered warrior. It's about coming out the other side of a bad situation and living to tell the tale. How you tell the tale (negativity or positively) is entirely determinate upon you, though. With the 3, methinks that you might be using it to remind yourself not to get too carried away. A "steady as she goes" kind of thing... but you do want to go. Maybe not all the way to the altar yet, but that desire for companionship is bubbling again. There's some hesitation, though. I get all weird on the backs of my arms, like goose pimples, which usually happens when I'm not ready for something.

If you have your own deck and ask a question representing past, present future I will interpret.

What is the direct question you are answering? It's best to start with 3 cards if you are just starting. What is the direct question?
click to expand

Oh, I'm not just starting. Thanks though! I've been at it for years -- but this damn word count is ruining everything ahhaa.
@mohini -- here's the other half:

In the future, well... the 10 of Cups says it all. I mean, shit, I wish I could get this card haha. It means total emotional happiness/completion/love/joy/belonging -- all the good things that come with opening ourselves to others. A happy marriage. A happy family. A damn happy life. However, it is paired with the Knight of Swords. This says pretty clearly to me that you've got to start purging negative thoughts and maybe some old habits (the 9 of Wands) from your life. This Knight is aggressive. He is rational, cunning, and goes for the gold with a sort of Capricorn meets Aries drive. He clears the way, but only if you embody who he represents. Another thing for me is that he is on the top row, quite literally raising his sword and rushing towards the 9 of Wands.

So, are you doomed to wander alone until you die? No. Not even remotely. But I do think the Tower was something that had to happen in your life to get you on this path towards the 10 of Cups. Things had to be shaken in order for the purge, and now you're well on your way. Just listen to your body and your own intuition -- I get the feeling it's tremendously strong. Go at your own pace, but do start trying to replace the 9 of Wands energy with that of the Knight. That's a major key to you BASICALLY GETTING TOTAL HAPPINESS WHICH I AM MADLY JEALOUS OF smile smile

Hope any of this resonates and doesn't seem presumptive or rude or whatever. If it does or, worse, doesn't click, I'm really sorry. Again! I'm nervous haha and my ego might be ruining everything X_x

I did not know at the time the Rider/Waite was the classic deck owned by most tarot readers,most popular too. I just bought it on a whim a little after i became interested in astrology.

The deck connected to me quickly. Before i knew it,i was looking at the contents of the cards,the colours,flowers,animals and the symbolism in those things. The cards became like a person,i wanted to know everything about them. The Witches Tarot however,despite connecting with it while watching YouTube Tarot readers use the deck,i just could not connect with the deck myself,even using them as clarification cards i find it difficult. I do use them from time to time but i usually pause and go silent,something i never do with Rider/Waite deck.

See, I have that problem too. I stare at this new deck, trying so hard to build up something... but's tough. I think I need to go back and start doing one card a day, just meditating on the image, etc., until something clicks. Seems so daunting though hahaha

Your question: are you doomed to wander this world alone?

Tower, 3 of coins and 10 of cups.

The direct answer is no.

The worst part is over, now you are doing a lot of work on yourself to prepare you for fulfilling friendships and family connections in the future.

OP do you have a question? I have been interpreting for 20 years.

Nope! I'm good. I originally opened the thread up just talk to people about a separate deck I was drawn to and purchased. It's truly beautiful, but after 10+ years with my Rider Waite deck, I feel like it's a whole new language. Just was looking for some advice on how to adapt and adjust smile

If you have any, I'm very happy to hear it!

Maybe the tarot cards feel weird because they arent worn in yet. Rigid cards dont feel like theyre mine yet. I play and shuffle until theyre a little more soft and easy to use smile plus in doing so youre giving your energy to the cards

This is such a good point. Mine are incredibly stiff, so maybe I should just start shuffling and doing daily meditations on each card. It's just so difficult too, because the images are really scant or (to be honest) macabre. Total opposite of my RW. So it's like... bah! Where to start?

Can I just have one card?

If you can tell me what the card would be equal to in rider waite...I can go from there.

Shuffle those puppies......spread them out....pick one three quarters from the left or right.

I actually am using my RW cards, because i have no idea how to use the others yet... but I don't do one cards, just because I feel like that doesn't really work in anybody's favor. I can do a three card for you, though, if you DM me! smile

Sad okay! Sorry and thank you!
@impulsv

So, I'm guessing this is the 8 of Swords (r), Seven of Swords (r), and 6 of Pentacles? Also what question did you use for this?
Posted by Impulsv
Yes swords n pentacle
What is going on between two people

So, I would read it as: Person A's feelings + the situation + Person B's feelings

Person A is absolutely holding themselves back with negative self-thoughts and fears. The 8, at least with the Rider-Waite deck I use, is a woman tied-up in surrounded by swords. Reversed, it just amplifies that negative energy. A lot of pulling from the past and being hyper-negative/concerned. The situation is the seems negative as well with the 7 reversed, which is all about feeling cheated or taken advantage of. Lots of miscommunication and, in some ways, maybe even paranoia? That might be too harsh. Person B is all about give and take, the 6 of Pentacles. Sharing and receiving.

So if I were going to put it all together, I would say that Person B is putting themselves out there, hoping for mutual return on whatever they are putting into this relationship, while Person A is really too afraid to move or too down on themselves; this is creating some tension between both people and really sort of making both of them think the worst. Or at least that's where I would go, personally, if I pulled those three cards.

I love reading cards, and I recently bought a new deck after 10+ with my Rider Waite. THIS NEW DECK FEELS SO WEIRD! Anybody else run into that, and what did you do to get around it?

Or just random thoughts on tarot as meditation?

You must allow your energy to adjust to them. Your intentions to be known. Sleep with them under your pillow. Never put them in something artificial during this time or they my not feel your vibration and they don't like it.

The cards have to feel you and much like Harry Potter the cards choose the reader more then one would think.

Of course if you are pure of heart and you won theirs it should be no issue.
