2 weeks ago my BF's daughter came to stay with us from a differnt state. With her, she brought 2 dogs and 1 parakeet. We felt like maybe the parakeet was lonely and yesterday went to look for one of those fake plastic ones that sit on the perch and bounce around. Well we went to where we knew a pet store had been for ages, and found it closed down and empty. Being late in the afternoon, we decided to go back home and find another store today.
On the way home, and very near the house, we spotted something blue, in the middle of the road. Passing it, we decided to back up and take a better look. It was a blue parakeet (real one) that was walking sideways and seemed dazed or in shock. In the middle of the friggin road!!
We picked it up (after it tried to wabble sideways and escape our persuit) and brought it to the house. We put it in the cage with the other bird, and within 2 hours, the blue dazed newbie was eating and singing, and the other bird is content with it. We were all simply amazed by the timing of this. I have found wild birds and nursed them, but a parakeet? NEVER!
Awww, that is so precious. To buy a pet is one thing .. to have one come to you, to rescue you is another .. for, it was you who was rescued too ..
The joy and endearment in your tone is evident .. it has brought you something just as precious as you to him .. life can be so fulfilling over the smallest gestures, can't it?
wow, Jwalker how amazing is that..!! 'i agree some things are definately meant to be in this world; so glad they found each other! 'Love the name 'Roady' too, btw! 😉
antibling Ya you could say that. I have definitely LOST a few. But to FIND one you need to go to a pet store. These 2 birds are like TOTALLY ga ga over each other now. Watched them cuddling and kissing each other all week-end. I'll probably need a nest soon. Since one is Freeway, and one is Roady...I think the first baby can be Roadway 🙂
primegen do you know alot about birds? Cause if there are any eggs that appear out of this union I might need some advice. Never had any birdie babies to care for, or will the parents just naturally take over?
JW .. my FIL has parakeets and the female lays eggs. I don't personally know anything about it, but, everytime we go over there and she is nesting, he has put an empty soda carton box in the bottom of the cage (it's a huge cage), so she can keep her eggs seperate, yet, still be in the cage with her mate. He always has the opening on the side, so, people can't look down into her nest .. he doesn't seperate her from her mate, though. That's all I know, besides, my FIL doesn't do anything except change the shredded newspaper once in a while that he puts in there for her to lay on. He touches the eggs and she doesn't freak. That's all I know, but, like I said .. this is coming from what he does and says .. I've no personal experience.
P-Angel and primegen, thank you. I guess I will learn if/when the time comes. It would be kind of fun/different experience for me. I appreciate your comments.
You're welcome .. oh, and another thing .. with his birds, the eggs never hatch. He's had them for years and years, she lays them all the time .. but, he's never gotten babies .. I don't know why. Maybe they won't in captivity, or something. But, I just thought I would tell you that in case she lays .. I wouldn't want you to freak out if the eggs don't hatch because apparantly, it must be normal.

DO you think this is a coincidence?
P.S. We named it "ROADY" 😉
