Thats a hard one. I'm in NY and they are already phasing in $ 15 per hour for fast food workers. That puts them on par with more "skilled" positions and at a higher rate than school bus drivers and health aides.

If the minimum is higher than other pay rates need to raise accordingly or we will end up like communist Cuba where the doctor and the dishwasher make the same salary. The high school drop out rates would rise because the monetary incentive wouldn't be there. Unemployment would go up because many businesses couldn't afford to keep everyone on the payroll, prices would go up to try and keep the profit margin.

Currently, a person cannot raise a family working a minimum wage job (or even $ 15 p/h). Raising the wage would leave less dependent on social programs and improve poverty rates.

HS dropout gets a job at the grocery store. Makes $ 15 per hour.

Store has to raise the prices to maintain profit margin.

Profit margin is impacted by ALL operating expenses within that grocery store,

all vendors that store distributes, the transportation of said commodities.

Landlord says, Sorry folks, gotta raise the rent.

The pros are going to be VERY short lived. EVERYONE will end up charging more, for goods, services,

utilities, housing and transportation, healthcare, education, etc., etc., etc..

Because a bunch of spoiled rotten unappreciative liberal brats who think they are worth more, but don't

have the brains, the skill, and the know-how to find the job that pays more, the rest are going to have

to take the hit..... BAD!

The federal, state, and local governments will end up benefiting from more artificially generated

tax revenue. BAD! the politicians in Government already rob the people as it is...

In the end, nothing is going to change.

It's simple economics.

They are phasing it in? What is the old minimum wage standard at the fast food joints, there—?

I live in NY and the cost of living is ridiculously high. I can't see anyone being able to survive on $ 15 per hour. That is probably why there are so many people leaning on social programs. The counties raise taxes every year to pay for the welfare, food stamps and Medicaid, the rents rise to compensate for the higher taxes and then even more people are left struggling.

It's a never ending cycle.

I remember when you could get a Big Mac for about a $ 1.50

now it's about $ 5. When $ 15 per hour comes to town, that big mac is going to

be knocking on $ 10.00.

Insanity.

Those who are in poverty now, will be hit the hardest.

Fast food jobs are not meant to be a career. It's a typical "first job" type of employment.

I'm wondering if they are trying to kill the fast food industry...

They already killed the REAL industries that made this country as strong as it was.

I'm going back to my communist theory. Let's make everyone equal and dependent.

I know people with teaching degrees that can't find a job and are working the deli counter at the grocery store. They are certainly regretting those 6 years in college and $ 100,000 in student loans.

wow 100k loan for a teaching profession? :/

I guess they also lived on campus and had poor parents, so they had no support.

that sucks for a lot of todays youth. There's no pursuit of happiness, just pursuit of making minimum wage at the deli store.

I don't like that communist theory idea. but I don't like the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer either.

there's no good option.

I've hearing that too.

I have a feeling that the powers that be want to break the system.

So... the teachers are flippin' burgers and the banks are demanding

their money. In order to get, they'll push the idea. That might be a possibility.

The problem is clearly due to corrupt politicians and inept bureaucracy, and

useless government officials who are clueless in the art of true governance.

Cough... too many teachers, not enough schools.

It used be "Global Warming" now it's "Climate Change".

They blame the problem on man's pollution - factories and fossil fuel.

But... has anyone thought to ask whether the earth has moved closer to the sun—

You know.... put your hand a little closer to the fire and it will feel warmer than if you

move it further away...

The Earth's solar orbit may actually be getting smaller and smaller.

It's all going to pot.

I would just encourage people to really give this $ 15 per hour business some serious thought.

The US Government is a clumsy stupid ox that is full of people who really

don't know what they're doing or don't care.

Now they are talking about autonomous commercial trucks..... BADDDDDDDDDDDDDD IDEA!!!

IMHO, it's time for a REAL blood and guts war. When it takes place or what sets it off...

I don't know.. but the mood is being shaped.

25 years ago we were already saying "There's going to be a revolution in this country".

But I think it's too late. Most people are too dumbed down and/or complacent to

consider what's really unfolding. Instead, it's daffydill from dopeyville mentality...

"My ex boyfriend texted me from France. So do you think I should text back? NO, I never met him"

Or...

"dude, if you want to be gay, it's cool. My video game is gay"

That's the kind of crap people think about these days.

Some people are quick to criticize working mothers but a lot of it is based on necessity. I'm sure many women would love to stay at home with their babies but it has become very difficult to live in one income. Cost of living is just too high. It's not like 60 years ago when dad could put in 40 hours a week at the factory and be able to afford a house and a car.

I make well over $ 15 per hour. I have a decent business plus a job plus child support plus a rental house and I still struggle. It all looks good on paper but the bills are outrageous.

Charlotte Iserbyt talked about "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America"

No doubt it's going on elsewhere in the world.

Look at England and Europe.. they've opened their borders and are finding themselves

at odds with people from the middle east and.... becoming heavily dependent on China, like the US.

IF this country wanted to compete with China, it's going to have to pay Chinese wages, which, the last I checked, was about .80 cents an hour to our $ 7.
