God forbid you actually have to GO to class.
I mean, it's not like employers expect to you to show up for work or anything.

Posted by ScenicYeah, I should've paid more attention to that, but I also didn't realize my grade would hinge upon it either.
Did you received a syllabus for that class? When I was in college, every professor handed one out and I knew exactly how many days I could miss before it affected my grade. It sucks, but you'll just have to be careful next time and make sure you understand how many classes you can miss without being penalized.

Sorry, but these are two totally different scenarios. Class isn't dependent upon me to function. A job is a job that requires a person to be there. I'm paying to learn, and I do that with materials and guidance. I'm doing the work, and I'm doing it well - my previous 16 classes (all of which I finished with an A, all of which demanded much more on my behalf beyond showing up) speak for themselves. If I can skip two classes in a row and not miss anything, the problem isn't me, it's the instructor and the course.
If the class requires you to be there to receive credit, and you're not there, and you get a shitty grade, that's your fault.

I wouldn't have had a problem with this class if it didn't grade nearly entirely based on attendance. This was my fourth semester full time classes (I started college late; took a few years off) and I maintained a 4.0 GPA. It might be community college, but I still worked very hard to make sure I excelled in my work, in classes where many of my peers did very poorly. I finally had a 'blow-off' class - one where we only had five assignments the entire class. I missed maybe ten days total this semester, because I was working on projects for other classes, and because of some other life issues that got in the way, but I still aced my assignments. I didn't think this was a big deal, because six or seven classes during the semester were just food parties, and a few more were just watching movies that had nothing to do with class. In fact, sometimes the teacher didn't even show up. It felt like high school; what a joke!
Fine, you know? Whatever, I can deal with one class where we don't learn anything. Maybe it's a waste of money but at least it'll get me an easy A.. Guess what? I end up with a C+. A C+! This brought 47 credit hours - all of which I earned a 4.0 - down to a total GPA of 3.9. Pissed! Not because I have a 3.9 now - if it was a challenging class that I learned a ton in and had an opportunity to apply myself, I wouldn't mind - but no! The class could have seriously been twenty times more intensive than it was, and I would have aced, just for the fact that my grade would have been based upon my ability to learn and perform, and not on my ability to show up and waste my time watching romance-comedies. What a joke.
