I've tried, I just cant. I think Johnny Cash and maybe Chris Stapleton may be as close as it gets for me.

You might want to look into folk music from the 60s and 70s.

Country music is awesome. I am that rare individual that still likes alot of my hard rock past, loves dance music (club), and also like country, particularly when I'm at the cabin up north. It's all about Cancer's moody, moods.

I don't get it either, it's too trailer trash for me LOL! I like Dolly Parton though ❤

I wouldn't even know where to begin. I've only been into country since about 1991 or so. I guess for new country listen to Keith Urban - Cop Car is a cool tune. See if you like it. Carrie Underwood - listen to "How Great Thou Art" and tell me this girl isn't a once in 50 year talent. I love Blake Shelton, songs like, "Sure be Cool if you did" - that song is amazing. Watch the video once. Blake is like a hit machine - everything he does is good. Also listen to Luke Bryan - "Crash my Party" or "Roller Coaster". I could go all day. If your younger, listen to Florida Georgia Line, their entire 1st album has about 4-5 great songs on it like, " Get your shine on". Watch the video on that - very cool.

Oh yes, and in a serene, elegant environment, I love classical music too!

I didn't even bother to read the other posts besides the OP.
I like country music. It's about a lifestyle. If you don't grow up with country living and with the cultural influence of living in a rural area, you're just not going to get it. You don't relate to the lifestyle.
It's okay that you don't get it.
I don't get hip hop, I can't relate to that lifestyle.
So, to each their own.

This makes me think of Colt Ford - There Ain't No Trash In My Trailer

Does Jason Isbell's album Southeastern count?

I haven't read any of the replies yet, but check out Nickel Creek and Alisin Kraus. Bluegrass, but I love it. It isn't super twangy and the subject matter is usually pretty provocative or thought provoking.

Not everyone who lives in the country lives like that video portrays, though. I understand the lifestyle, though.
I really do like his music.
I like the Casey Donahew Band, Colt Ford, the Lacs, Carey Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Hank Williams Jr., Charlie Daniels, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard and so many more.
There is such a variety of country music.

I like the edgy stuff... like the all-time underrated classic 'I see the want-to in your eyes'.

The thing about country music, lyrically the genre is superior, because what they sing about actually has some depth and meaning.
Rap I just don't get at all - I don't even consider it music - more like white noise to me. The only rap song I ever liked was Usher - Yeah! Reminds me of Panama City on the beach. Rap went totally to hell after that.

Ofc not. I was just joking.
Casey Donahew Band: No. Just no.
Colt Ford I liked. He really has that special something and the tune wasn't bad at all.
the Lacs: Nah.
Carrie Underwood. Not my cup of tea. It's like she tries to be badass and fails miserably.
Miranda Lambert: A real talent, imo. She can sing and has great presence. I think she deserves better songs.
Hank Williams Jr: There is something about him that I like. Can't put my finger on it.
Charlie Daniels: Really like the guy. A true artist...but the tunes were not my cup of tea whatsoever.
Loretta Lynn: Great singer, but tunes not my cup.
Merle Haggard: Love him. I wish I liked his music. That's an artist!
Just imo.click to expand

Probably not, because I think this was the best so far. He sounds really genuine.
I'm weird about country, but I *think* it counts? Dunno, but I love that album. And you're right. He put so much of himself into. Saw him twice during that tour. His wife, Amanda plays violin. They were doing Cover Me Up and he looked over at her and, not gonna lie, I got a lil misty. Remember thinking how it must feel to be looked at like that and how lucky they are. Anyway, him, Will Johnson, Jason Molina and David Bazan are about as country as I get these days.click to expand

When I read bluegrass, my heart fell just a little, I have to admit, but Nickel Creek was not bad at all. The tune wasn't bad and I liked his voice - effortless and genuine...which is not something I can say about Alison Krauss'...
Thank you!
Love Jason Aldean....She's Country, Night Train, The Truth, Just Gettin Started - awesome!!click to expand

Listen to the lyrics from Just Gettin Started and tell me this doesn't remind you of the typical reaction between a Cancer dude and an Aries hottie!

I like old school country
I love metal and hip hop not what's considered "rap" nowadays. But if you're new to country music, why not just start with some Country Pop? The New country the lyrics have pretty much winded Dow to beers, broken hearts, and Chevy trucks but it's fun to dance etc.
Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, The Band Perry, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan just to name a few

I like more of the "bar music" sound. (I believe they call it Texas country now). It's more traditional to country music roots and has a more energetic feel. Something you can toss a few beers back with.
Today's country, is more pop. Like they're trying too hard to cross over (Luke Bryan, Taylor Swift all fit into that category). Traditional country music fans lose respect for them because they're a sell out. More in it for the money than the music.
Anything with a fiddle makes me happy.

Sweet Home Alabama. Catchy!
Kenny Rogers. Hmm. Well. Not my thing.
There was something compelling about "Fade into You." I liked the guy, but the girl I liked only in passages. Why is she trying to look and sound like a doll(however dolls sound...?
Commodores, I believe, are really talented! Smooooth. Was that Lionel Richie, btw?
Thank you!
