5'9 is not short for a male. Your question is also directed at each individual poster, so each case will be different. In my case, it's what would I do if a friend of mine turned down someone who is too short. I don't date men so that just leaves the females

Nope....to me it'd be too weird to talk to her about him and in the back of her head she's thinking he went to you only because she turned him down first. But I guess it's truly up to you because once you get over that initial awkwardness then you may be fine after that.
