Woman born with no vagina hopes to raise funds for life-changing

A woman was born with no vagina after being diagnosed with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome - and is now trying to raise money for life-changing surgery.

After never having a period by the age of 18, Kaylee Moats visited a doctor who examined her and found that the young American did not in fact have a uterus, cervix, vagina or vaginal opening.

Moats and her family, who live in Gilbert, Arizona, were heartbroken, particularly given the news that she will be unable to have children.

The 22-year-old told Barcroft TV that she's sad that she can't have children, adding that it makes her feel "less of a woman" because she "can’t do what women are supposed to be able to do".

Moats is hoping to raise funds via a GoFundMe page to fund a reconstructive surgery that will create a vaginal opening for her.

Moats’ sister Amanda wrote on the page: “There was nothing worse than getting that phone call and knowing that my sister’s dreams for her life were changed so drastically in an instant, with nothing I or anyone else could do to make it better.”

The surgery costs a $ 15,000, which Moats revealed her health insurance won’t cover because they do not consider it to be a life-saving treatment.

So far, $ 3,500 has been raised to treat the condition, which affects just 1 in 5,000 women.

After hearing the news, the Northern Arizona University graduate was hesitant to tell her boyfriend Robbie, unsure of how he’d react.

However, he has been incredibly supportive thus far and is even planning on donating a portion of his salary to help fund her surgery.

“When she told me, I already had grown to love this person, so it’s not going to make me love her any less,” he explained in the clip. “I’ll be there every step of the way. I’m amazed that she hasn’t let this define her”, he added, “she inspires me everyday.”

Friends of the young woman have been quick to offer their support, as Moats explained that several of those closest to her have even offered to carry her child as a surrogate.

I'm sorry but how did it take you that long to realize you didn't have a vagina —?

I think they're being overly dramatic.

Mayer-Rokitansky-KĂźster-Hauser syndrome

...an anomaly that belongs to class I Mullerian duct anomalies

There are two different form of this syndrome:

-- the typical form (type A) of this syndrome is characterised by the congenital absence of the

uterus and upper vagina with normal ovaries and fallopian tubes

-- the atypical form (type B) of the syndrome includes associated abnormalities of the ovaries

and fallopian tubes and renal anomalies

Kaylee put off seeing a doctor for a while thinking she was a late bloomer, but alarm bells rang when her 12-year-old sister got her period and she still hadn’t.

She said: “It does look exactly how it should look like, everything looks normal the only thing is I don’t have the vaginal opening – it’s just a little dimpled skin where the hole should be.

“It was hard being around people in high school and college when the girls would bring up their periods or talk about their pregnancies and kids.

“A lot of the time they didn’t know I had the condition so if someone asked if I had a tampon I would just say no and kept quiet.”

The surgery, called vaginoplasty, will create an opening and then vaginal dilators – specially designed plastic tubes – will be used to stretch the opening.

But the surgery is considered a cosmetic surgery and is not covered by Kaylee’s insurance.

Her sister, Amanda, has started a Go Fund Me page to raise ÂŁ12,000 for the surgery.

So far she has raised about £3,000 – with Robbie donating £40 from each of his monthly pay checks.

Kaylee said: “The fact that insurance considers this a cosmetic or a gender surgery really upsets me.

“I have all the correct chromosomes of a woman so it’s not a gender or cosmetic thing because it’s not what’s outside that is different.

I feel like this is fake news dot com.

15k is the price of silicon implants, not the creation of a sex organ.
They're not giving her a uterus or ovaries, just a little cut into a cavity.

It still doesn't seem like enough $ $ for that. Seems more likely her go-fund-me efforts are a scam.

according to this, it ranges between $ 3k- $ 12k

Ok I had to look this up and am STILL baffled. How does one not know they lack a vaginal opening until the age fo 18 in this day and age? She's 22, which means she only figured this out FOUR years ago (so 2013).

And how does one urinate, or anything else along those lines? Where does trac go?

What about hormonal changes in the female body- so some parts of body go through puberty, but others don't?

My guess is, she still has a urethra to handle the usual bodily functions, she just doesn't have the means for handling penetration of any kind.

It's also for creation of one, only thing is they dont need to actually construct anything just create the opening. That link also talks about Mayer-Rokitansky-KĂźster-Hauser

Like hell. My boyfriend's birthday is only days away and I've spent a small fortune putting his birthday present together. He is way more important to me than some random chick I've never met and couldn't give a toss about.

Do you suppose could be the opposite of a hermaphrodite?

I've never heard of a case like this one!

Not necessarily. Her body seems to have physically and hormonally developed along the lines of a traditional female/woman. People who are intersex (some of whom may be considered to be hermaphrodites) tend to have ambiguous or confusing genitalia along with mixed or abnormal physiology that can possibly be affected on a chromosomal level.

In her case, it seems that her vagina and uterus didn't form completely, but she can still be considered to be female based on her own physiology and genetic makeup. It would be no different if she was born a woman without a fully developed hand.

I wonder if in general her vagina canal was underdeveloped?

It seems that if there were no doubts or questions surrounding her part on a level that would raise red flags (from what is given to us)- everything could seem/look fine- until she met her bf.

She actually knew something was wrong before her boyfriend it seems. She met him after she had already found out about her condition. So yeah I'd assume that her vaginal canal is severely underdevoloped, but everything else is working properly.

What I find weird is that she never had a period and NO ONE thought to take her to a gynocologist before she was 18. She started questioning things when her sister got her period at the age of 12. Makes me think this particular family isn't keen on discussing sex and health.

Periods can be affected by weight loss, stress, hormones, drugs, and others.

So some girls will get their periods later than others. And also means periods can be stopped; to a degree.

Great point on sentence, either way.

I wonder who helped her sister...

Are they all biological, do you know?

I can only assume they are all related biologically.

I get the part about sex, but how safe would it be for her to give birth after the surgery. It's a complex process
She's sterile, she has no uterus, nothing they can do for that.

lol I'm lost. I misread that everything was intact but the slit was sealed

hallo, you're needed again lol
