after reading the comments in this thread, im a bit saddened with some of the members of DXP. many of you, i see in a whole different light; and it aint a good one. i can only take this small group of people as a sample of what society REALLY thinks.

interesting how one lil ol blog can incite so much hatred and ill feelings. something that started off so positive and harmless.

I should of also asked the question: "tell us one thing interesting about yourself" to make the thread more fun.

not to late to do that...

one thing interesting about myself..id say my hair. i have a love affair with weaves and just black hair in general. i went through just about every hair style . flat twists, box braids, wigs, jeri curl (it was a pixie cut dammit..no Sol Glo), micros, fingerwaves, etc.

right now im wearing my hair natural but with a weave. i seem to cut my hair off when i feel low about a guy. so ive been letting it grow out and i dont want to perm it again. i live in the south, so with the weather, that may change lol.

oh, and i LOVE my KING...the black man.

i like this thread....i think its cool to know a little bit about one another.

i dropped a few hints about my race on the scorp board.

I'm really surprised that people couldn't tell you were black from the threads on here. Your avatar makes it so obvious, IMO, let alone your posts. It makes me seriously question how perceptive people are in general!

Sad isn't it. I really didn't think that it would come down to this. I thought I was trip'n at first but, guess not. LOL. Nice that we were able to still keep some of the positivity and still get to know one another is great.

I knew every single one of you were black. I'm a psychic I swear to Godddd

Hmmmm...so you just knew that, lil sassy kitty 🙂 LOL...Bri is my girl.
Anywho, this thread is ridiculous now; the intent that has been implied is absolutely asinine, and ridiculous...but nothing on DXP surprises me anyway.

Je t'aime mon amie. (translation: "I love you my friend.")
Darlin' I've been getting my ass kicked working my butt off; and that's a LOT of work 😉!
I had 3 martinis last night! It felt good since I haven't been drinking that much, since I've been working our for the past 3 1/2 weeks. I have mucho, mucho respect for LeoLadyLoves! Because this working out shiznit is for the birds, BUT, I gotta look uber shexay ... so I gotta do it.
Glad to see you are doing well, and torturing your new sagi roommate! LMAO, just shuckin baby, just shuckin!

Dude, I wasn't trying to rush to conclusions. Of course you could be a kick ass white girl adopted by black parents.

I'm just saying that it seemed pretty apparent to me that you were black, based on your posts. I don't see how that's negative?

lol, i never said that YOU were rushing to conclusions. you said that you worry about peoples perceptions and i gave a reason why it wouldnt necessarily be peoples perceptions.

i never even used the word negative. lol

Cool!

My bad girl, this hurricane has had everybody trip'n.

I've done nearly everything you've mentioned with the exception of a weave and the Jeri Curl (LOL @ Sol Glo!). I was always scared to get a weave because I always thought it would take my hair out (back in da day they use to use that cheap black glue that you would buy for about $ 1.99 from the China man gift shop...just awful). I guess I was also scared that I would become too dependent upon it, so I stuck to braids.

This is a good topic because I often see women do a weave along with their natural hair - as in some parts is theirs and some parts is the weave, so my question is: is it all sewn in? Do they still use glue nowadays? LOL, don't think I'm crazy. I'm just not in the mix the way I used to be! After all my years of dyeing, rinsing, cutting, braiding, etc., I't's been simply nothing but relaxers & Wash & Sets. I'm boring!

Ooooohhhh, I've always wanted to try a lacefront wig. They look amazing and you can barely tell that it's not yours. I've seen some of the ones Beyonce wears and they're kinda tight, lol.

That's so wonderful that you have that man. Lord have mercy I love me some Black men....

lol. your too cute. i get a full sew in or a partial that leaves hair out. now keep in mind beyonce's lace fronts cost about 1000, the one u find in the china man's shop is like 100.

some ladies still do the glue.

There's something I have to address to some of the women in here who have worn weaves and what not or who are considering going nautral. Well, it's more like a question only because it's had more of an impact on me than I guess I'd really like.

I went natural a long time ago, and by that I mean about 6 years ago before going natural became more accepted and almost trendy. I did it because my hair started to fall out from over processing, chemical burns from relaxers, and what not. I was like a sophomore or junior in high school, and I went to a predominantly black high school. When I stopped straightening, using chemicals, ect I noticed an immediate stigma. I got teased and ridiculed a lot because I didn't style my hair anymore like the girls in my school. Even my own mother would get on me about it even though I tried to make her understand why I chose to stop putting chemicals in my hair. Needless to say, it made me extremely self-concious, and since I already had high levels of anxiety, my hair made me really sad. So over the years, I've watched how natural hair has suddenly become something that nearly every black woman is striving for. And I hate to say, I have a little animosity. I love my hair curly, but I hate that even now, I still feel self-conscious because I was getting shitted on for a couple of years because I chose to stop straightening my hair. It almost makes me feel like, "Why do you get to enjoy your hair when you wouldn't let me enjoy mine?"
Most of the ridicule I got was from other black women.

So I suppose I want to ask have any of you dealt with this before. And I suppose the statement I want to make is that if you ever do decide to go natural, don't be ashamed and don't half-ass it. Your hair will love you for it.

i think this is a really good question. when i went natural, i got loads of positive attention, from men and from women. i mean, my hair was a curly afro.

BUT THEN there were aa few black girls/boys who said shitty things. i've never understood why. don't allow somebody to dictate to you how to wear your hair. i loved my 'fro. only reason i don't wear my hair that way now is maintainance. don't have the arm muscles for it :p plus, i'm lazy and hair needs alot of care.

i usually wear extensions now. they stop me looking too young, plus they're versatile. curly hair is beautiful, trust me. those who don't fee

What you're talking about is totally foreign to me and, to be ashamed to wear my natural hair, that sounds even more foreign to me.

damnit.

those who don't feel that way, fuck em.

Which way, exactly?

anyone pointing fingers and making you feel self conscious about wearing your hair natural.

it's their perception, not yours. try asking them what their problem is. they won't be able to tell you

Lol I would have, but at the time I was 15 and didn't have much confidence. I think to this day, I'd like to know why they were so against it. I mean, I study people a lot, and people generally attack things that they find uncommon, but it was hair. We all had similar hair; I just chose to do something differently with mine because I was tired of the chemical burns and the constant styling. It's just interesting now, though.

@candeh,

i actually get more shyt from some black men for wearing a weave. both my sisters have dreadlocks. if i want straight hair, i will put a straight weave in. when i want curly and kinky, i go with my natural hair.

i do see alot my girls going to natural route and getting flack from black women. its ridiculous. we were blessed with versatile hair...

@candeh,

im going to do a mohawk foy my bday...ala ANTM Marvene...

I did that before (several years ago), and it was cool and the breeze! Not a look that I would want for everyday, but for a hot minute it's all good!
One year, I wanted to go to a Halloween party as Nobe (Jada Pinkett's role in the "Matrix") but I chickened out in wearing the liquid, skin tight pants! I had my little nobbies all "ret to go!" LOL! Maybe I'll do it, if I work out enough this year! DO THE MOHAWK!!!!
I'm fortunate, because my hair grows really fast, so I chop that shiznit off all the time! One of my cousins and close girlfriends are hairstylist, so I've had ALL kind of crazy style s; especially when they wanted me to be in hair shows for them. They knew I wouldn't be pissed off when they hacked off my hair. My thing was, I'll look a little crazy (if it's a bad cut) for about 3-4 weeks, then it would be grown in enough to do sumthin' else. I'm not all over hair...don't get me wrong, I don't want to be bald, but I'm fortunate in that I don't have to worry about it!

It was cool DMV, but I'm older now, so I don't really do it anymore. Plus, my cousin doesn't do hair anymore, and I moved from that state where my hairstylist friend lives, so right now, I gotta do my own hair which is a giant PITA! But, I had fun doing the hair shows and stuff when I was in college and stuff. Oy, I could tell you about this one time I died my own hair (first AND last time)...I looked like Sisqo from Dru Hill when his hair was blond (it was so scary, and the story is too long to tell). Anywhoo, at that time, my hair was probably about bra strap length...I had to get it all chopped off since I f@cked up my hair! LMAO! Nevah' did I make THAT mistake again. I'll do my own Sebastian rinses (aka cellophanes), but NO PERMANENT COLOR unless it's professionally done!

Gurl, I thought I was gonna' be lookin like Beyonce or something (although, I'm Vanessa William's color) and I just turned out looking like a circus clown. That's why I said, no permanent color is being applied by myself anymore! It was funny though, and the WHOLE hair salon got a kick out of it, because I tried to put ANOTHER color on top of the blond...umm, yea, that's a mistake, just in case you didn't know. My hairstylist called all the others over to look as I pulled the scarf off my head and this thick, multi-colored mess came tumbling out! Good grief! Live and learn 🙂
