we were musing on another post about how times they have changed and i wanted to give a shout out to the cartoon heroes of yesteryear.
venusianbull reminded us of heckle and jeckle...good times. good times smile

and yeah, they stopped airing these cartoons mainly for political correctness. remember the mammy character in tom and jerry cartoons. or how some characters appeared in black face. as a child, i didn't view these images as negative...i was merely watching a cartoon. as an adult however, i view it differently and yet, i'm still not offended. i think you can be socially aware but historically nostalgic.
i mean, i used to LOVE when my mom made too much noise in the morning and i'd get up just in time to hear mighty mouse say...."Here I come to save the daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!" LOVED it! *sigh*...this is why seth green is a genius. i love when he does 80s toys skits on robot chicken.
ok, so the point is i want to give a shout out to all the fallen cartoon characters of yesteryear. may they live long and prosper on dvd, toon disney and boomerang...

What are some of your favorite cartoons from back in the day...and today for the young at heart?

and not so cartoons...?

The whole gang!

lol @ droopy smile
i miss popeye too...always hated olive oyl tho
LOL Olive Oyl drives me bonkers. That high pitched voice and no figure. Though I found a similar character amusing? The Miles Standish cartoon with the spinster next door.
dunno what Miles Standish cartoon is Sad
but yeah, i used to hate it because i didn't understand why they fought over her. as a kid i remember thinking...brutus could do much better and he should just let popeye have her. i mean, why get beat up for her? especially when she sometimes encouraged him? i mean, popeye is a sailor and he's like defending our country and while he's like fighting nazis and what not and this bone skinny heffer is diddling the neighbor. screw that, popeye could do better!
so i'd wrestle with who i was more angry with popeye/brutus depending on which episode was on.
LOL It's okay, it was a Merry Melodies/Looney Tunes, Miles Standish looked like a thin and quite early Elmer Fudd. His neighbor was an older spinster. They were crushing on each other and he was courting her. They wound up fighting Indians out of the cabin.
I always wondered what the appeal was about Olive Oyl. Head scratcher.
i used the google. i remember that one too smile
Oh wow, Quicky Koala. And the Thundercats, He-Man & the Masters of the Universe ( I have the power of Grayskull! ), She-Ra and others. Those came out when I was a teen though, my lil' bro was glued to them as often as possible.
TMNT
Inspector Gadget
