I just ran out a dim sum place yesterday afternoon because after we got our food, we saw SEVERAL GIANT COCKROACHES crawling by the spice rack DIRECTLY ON OUR TABLE LIKE THEY JUST DON'T GIVE A DAMN.
It was packed and super noisy with bright lights, so if they're just so BOLD as go on mating right ON MY TABLE, god fucking help that kitchen where the food we eat comes from!!
unfortunately I had already eaten some of the food, and it tasted good. WELL NOW I KNOW WHAT THEIR SECRET INGREDIENT IS.

Remember, for every roach you see there are 1000 you don't.

A few years ago I went on a business dinner in a local steakhouse. I was working for a title insurance company and my job was to schmooze up to potential clients so they would throw some business our way. It was myself, two local attorneys and the president of a local credit union. Towards the end of dinner something fell from the ceiling and landed smack in the middle of one of the plates. It was a mouse! He must of been dazed because he lingered long enough for us to get photos. Luckily, the guys all had a sense of humor.
It closed the next summer and then reopened under a different name and just last winter it burned to the ground.

I won't eat KFC anymore because they apparently missed a full feathered wing before frying it and ended up in my to go box.

Unfortunately, any time you choose to eat out, you're putting yourself at risk of getting sick, regardless of whether it's a dinky fast-food restaurant, or renowned high-end restaurant. Even if your dining area appears clean, you never really know what goes on behind the scenes.
My roommate used to work at relatively high-end American restaurant, and some of the stuff that she used to tell me was unbelievable. She said that sometimes, when the restaurant is too busy and the dishwasher can't keep up, the servers would just run their glassware or silverware under sink-water (no soap), wipe off any excess stains with their fingers, then serve it to the guests. Also, some chefs will touch their face, dirty surfaces etc. and then proceed to prepare the food without washing their hands.
It's unethical and against the law obviously, but if you've got high-end restaurants engaging in this kind of practice, just imagine what it's like at all the lower end restaurants.
I always catch people dropping food on the table and then picking it up and eating it, which isn't the best decision because a lot of restaurants use the same old, dirty rag to wipe multiple tables with.

I tell you what when looking for a restaurant to eat it at. I look at reviews, the menu, the location, the price, and the rating in the window. I'm usually on yelp..
