Help me choose my next rental!!!

So as some of you know since I've posted about it before, my current living situation has gotten weird and without going into too much detail...it's time for me to move on.

I've found 3 good options and have been approved for all three so it's up to me to choose one. Thing is they all have pros and cons...

Option 1: Cute guest house in Pasadena.

..............Pros, most privacy, secured parking

..............Cons, most expensive (several hundred over the other 2), no laundry, 1 year lease required

Option 2: Room rental in a house in Pasadena

..............Pros, cute area, there's a pool which is gonna be perfect for summer, secure parking

..............Cons, less privacy, sharing the house with a single father and his young daughter so noise could

be an issue, 1 year lease required

Option 3: Room rental in artsy house in silverlake

..............Pros, more private than option 2, closer to work, cute outdoor spaces, cheapest option, only 6

month lease

.............Cons, street parking, shared bathroom (with another female), and cats on the premises.

My goal over the next 8 months is to save money for that home ownership dream. However I also want to live comfortably. Give me your opinions. Which one would you choose if you were me??
Option 2
Or option 3 depending on your schedule with the other roommate and if they take care of the kitty litter properly lol
the no laundry is goign to add up.. many dont factor that into living expenses when renting. so option 1 seems the worst choice.

tbh id go the shorter lease term.

you dont want to get 3 months in an you are stuck if things are bad.

Option 3: Room rental in artsy house in silverlake

month lease

how bad is street parking?

Yeah the last time I lived with cats was when I lived with my sister years ago and she's super ocd so Idk if I could handle it...

Not bad at all! And I have great car insurance coverage. The property is located at the top of the staircase district (theres a few in Los Angeles) so its a 7min hike up stairs to get to the house. Not necessarily a bad thing...I could have a killer ass and legs in a few months lol.

Edit: yeah the no laundry thing is a bitch. I really don't want to do the laundry mat thing. Like really really don't!

True but what about bringing in groceries??
#2. Disguise yourself as a live-in nanny so you get free rent and food.
Posted by aquanib
#2 ofc...let daddy take care of you! Big Grin

#3 is attractive but moving is a hassle. However if you're up for a bit of "living on the edge", imo go for it and try and see how it goes 5 months down the line...maybe the lease will get extended after 6 months....

See this is making me not want to chose number 2. Cause I'm not looking to complicate things like that. I have a man. This is one of the issues I'm having at my current rental...housemate is acting weird and I don't want any of that.

A shorter lease is more desirable for me tbh.

Naw pass. I work 60+ hours a week as it is. I'm not looking for more work.

Soo option # 3 it is then ?
Renting a stackable unit (provided thete are

hookups) is worth it, and typically not that

expensive-- you'll still pay at the laundromat

(eww)... maybe you could negotiate with the

landlord.

Ive never rented a room in someones home and

the idea is unappealing to me-- I would pay for

the place of my own, if I could.

Secure parking-- cars can be replaced, but you

can't... you'll be closer to the house.

This is a no brainer for me but I don't like to

share living space (not a bathroom, to be sure)

with others.

Must have control of the A.C..

Yeah I asked the landlord about that cause I don't mind purchasing a washer/dryer unit. Problem is there's no existing water hookup and he said he's not going to install one ☹️

I swim 4xs a week (minimum) and am showering at the pool so the shared bathroom thing would be doable...I think ?

Yeah there's not one that's ideal ideal. But I already but in my notice so I feel like I need to make a decision. But is it gonna be a decision I regret...?

Maybe I should just put my stuff into storage (aka my brothers extra garage) and get a weekly hotel until something better comes along...idk.

well than #3 is the best option, but i need my own bathroom, its my private heaven

Yeah this would be the first time I'm sharing a bathroom since college....years and years ago.
The other great thing about option 3 is that the owner agreed to let me put a dog door into the screen so my pup could come and go as she pleases.
Kinda leaning towards #3... the price is attractive and I could probably rough the bathroom situation for 6 months...maybe.

Option 1, it's well worth it. It gives you the most freedom if anything in your life changes. Also if you have an 8 month plan, a 12 month lease seems the most logical. Also...

Are you going through a property management

I did that a couple of times-- three or four times

hunting online.

I didn't this time because I already had the

place I wanted picked out, but I would have

used one again if I hadn't.

I never bothered with the Cha Cha lounge. When my buddies and I needed to go to a good watering hole on Friday or Saturday night during my years in the LA area... it was always the Red Lion. Great food, good selection of really good beers, great atmosphere, and you can actually carry on a conversation.

One of my various Sag buddies I seem to magically collect for my Evil Seagoat inner circle is a guy with a PhD in Anthropology and Folklore. When you get him well lubricated with imported beer... nobody tells better stories. Big Grin So being able to hear your drinking companions is a good thing when you're out with him.

Good Lord I miss the tall Warsteiners and the sausage platter, and home made sourkraut and mustard. *deep sad sigh*

I've been to both but it's been years. Always nice to have a dive bar nearby though.

be careful using some of those... espeically if you end up finding a place to live on your own. we still have folks having to move into an apartment, because they private rented and the landlords didnt pay the morgate and houses being forclosed on. its on the rise again in las vegas.

i'd try to find a locator company, meet with them and tell the your needs and see what they find. i think its free unless you find a place and usually the person that holds the rental ( landlord) pays the fee to the company.

Hmm this is true... scams like this everywhere which is why I had my Realtor buddies look up properties to make sure everything was legit. I would def recommend that if you are iffy on anything.
So I get back home and check out what my lovely housemate did...

Definitely option 1. Its hard to rent a room the people already living there are set in their ways. You would have to adapt to their routines.

Personally, I prefer having my own space and making my own rules. A room rental puts a wrench in that. The laundry thing is an inconvenience that can be dealt with by renting a small unit(there are some washers that hook up to the sink) or use the laundry mat. The extra money is money well spent.

All the more reason to choose option 1. No roommates!

Eww Silverlake.
Eww anything East of La Brea really.
I honestly think you'll regret all three options....But I guess they are all better than your current situation. So chose option #3.Because you'll save the most money.

The price is right and you'll save on gas because it's close to work.

Also, LA traffic is no joke so that's a bonus for option #3.
