Help - Trunk won't close

This topic was created in the Miscellaneous forum by poppyflower on Sunday, January 14, 2024 and has 20 replies.
I've been driving a 2015 Honda Civic. It just got really cold here but I parked it inside the garage. Now after I put a shopping bag in, it won't close. It doesn't look like anything is blocking the hatch from closing. Any DIY ideas? Thank you in advance.
Sometimes the fixed latch closes and won't hook onto the hood latch. You can try to push the button that opens it. Or have someone pull on it (fixed latch) with a tool while you push the button.

The cold can make parts stick/freeze.

What kind of tool I can use to pull on the fixed hatch?

is that a sexual metaphor?

Anything that can fit in between the latch. Like a screwdriver. Or maybe even some keys of there's nothing else.
Too much junk in your trunk
Latch is fucked, and needs repaired. I would simply duct tape it shut to get it home, then watch YouTube videos till I fixed it. Or you could just take it to a shop and pay extra. It's really hard to fix car parts in a forum though. Like I can't truly picture your hatch, or what could possibly be wrong with it. Also when it comes to car parts sometimes you get into a giant situation that is hard af to fix. Which sometimes going to a shop and having them deal with it just makes it much easier. If you want to tackle it yourself however, doing as much research as possible on the problem is your best bet. Research YouTube, forums, and anything you possibly if you want to fix it yourself.

How things turn out, poppy!?

I was going to suggest heating the latch with a lighter or whatever you might have on hand but I see I arrive bit late to the party.

I have the same issue with my entrance security door. :/
Putting too many bodies in there makes it hard to close.

Hehe. 🤭
Spray some WD-40 on it to see if it fixes it.

Ikr? Quite the ordeal. 😱🫢🤭😜

I've got a 2012 with a similar issue and I just slam the bastard shut.
I know this might sound like a silly question, but it happened to me. Do you possibly happen to have your spare fob key in the trunk? It won't close if it is. Last time I moved I had my spare one packed in a box in the trunk.. took me hours to figure out why my trunk wouldn't close -_- LOL

Haha thankfully it’s not that. I only have one fob with me and I keep it in my purse. The second one is kept at my parents place.
Is the trunk closed now?
