cj7, why, oh why have you not answered phoenix rising asking if everything was still ok with you. Dont you know we are worried to death about you. My mom grew up in Dodge City, Kansas, and she experienced quite a few tornados. A hurricane can be much worse than that. Hopefully you are sleeping right now and all is well. Please post and let me know if your ok, so I can stop fretting about it. I think you are a very special and caring person, and I would like to enjoy many more conversations with you. So be careful and protect yourself cj7 my little friend. Post ok!!!!!!!!!!

I figured your power must have gone out at some point. I heard on the news (not that I was glued to it, or anything, lol...alright, I was glued to it) that 2 million people in Florida lost power.

Were you able to stay in your own house for all of this, or did you have to travel to a shelter?

Very funny about the cow. 🙂 I, for one, am glad that the cows stayed in the pastures. I feel really bad though, for all the people who lost their homes. Supposedly the President is going to allocate money for everyone, or something. As he should.

I remember once when we had a severe windstorm here, and shingles went flying. Roof shingles. It was mildly upsetting. I can't imagine the panic I'd feel during an actual hurricane. The idea of a tornado bothers me, too. Are all your family members safe and sound after the whole ordeal?

I have a stupid question. I'm watching - you guessed it! - the News, and I'm listening to all these Floridians talk, some officials, some just regular people, and I'm noticing that some of them have pretty strong southern accents. I didn't realize there were so many of them. It makes sense, since Florida is very much, I guess, a southern state, but anyway, do *most* of you have accents? It's a stupid question, but I'm really curious. (Do *you* have an accent?)

Is your house completely intact?

i stayed at the house phoenix, i have a big plate glass window up front that i boarded up, but my house is pretty sturdy and made of concrete block so its pretty safe till the roof blows off.🙂 most people that went to shelters have a mobile home or are in a flood area.
it was pretty close, luckily the main part of the storm stayed just east of us. i did have a little cleanup though, just tree branches and things like that, not a big deal considering.

yes there are alot of crackers down here phoenix. florida is a very soutern state, but its not as bad as say, georgia or alabama. we have alot of southern folk but we also have alot of transplants from everywhere else. i personally dont think i have an accent, i moved here from n.y.
i might have picked up something but its just so i blend with the natives.lol

yeah the house is intact, except where my remodeling projects arent finished.lol
but that hurricane paul, not charlie.🙂

LOL, I see. 😛

Now I remember that you moved there from NY, that was stupid of me to forget that. "Crackers", well, I wasn't going to say that, but, lol...anyway thanks for clarifying. I thought it was interesting when I was watching the news and hearing all these strong southern accents, because I remembered that some family members of mine used to live in Florida for a while, but when they came back, they sounded accent-less. Probably because they were born here, not there. 😛

Glad to hear everything's really okay. All your shingles are there and all that. 🙂

ok now cj7, where are you my little friend? Out watching those flying cows huh. Well come in out of the hurricane long enough to have a hot glass of chocolate to warm yourself up. You probably still may not have power I guess. I am not going to be happy until I hear from you ok. I have been following things on the news all day off and on. I was wondering where exactly you live in Florida? I was curious as to just how near or far you were from the storm. I hope your sturdy little house of brick is ok, and that your family is safe and everyone is fine. Let me know ok, I kind of have a soft place in my heart for you cj. I love it when a man can show such a careing side of himself as you can. Of course I also have a spot in my heart for Phoenix Rising, Candle Girl, Morganofmind, Parralax (sorry for the spelling on that one para.) And yes James Tate. I hope I am not missing someone because I feel like I am. Oh yes Sweet Pea. I think that's everybody, I hope so. If not Ill post again and finish the list of those of us that return again and again here to the boards at Duncanville. Gosh I feel like I am becomming one of the regulars-how cool. Thanks everyone-and please lets hear from you cj7-ok. Gotta go take care of my mom now its time to put her to bed. See ya later TW2

Hi Phoenix Rising, Yea you most likely are right. I am just a little worried because sometimes people dont make it through storms like that. There are almost always a few casualties when the storm is a bad one. I dont know just where cj7 lives in florida so I am not sure how hard he may have been hit. He seems like such a good person, I just hope nothing bad has happened to him. I truly have grown fond of all of you in the short time I have been posting here at Duncanville, so I guess I feel a little protective because I care about all of you. God I hope he is alright, it just seems like we should have heard something by now. But all we can do is wait and see. Please let him be alright, It would break my heart if he is not. I am dealing with to much tragety right now so I am a little vulnerable to it right now. You know I was just thinking last night about how I am getting to know all of you and that we are scattered all accross the states. It's kind of neat that we can talk to each other this way. I feel like I have new friends all over the place. Gotta go make some dinner for my sweet son, Bye Phoenix-TW2 (and cj7 where ever you are)

Frances wasn't a very powerful hurricane but it did take a very long time to traverse the state. I lost power at my house 9:30am on Sunday. Still haven't gotten it back. The Pinellas County(Saint Petersburg) and Hillsborough County(Tampa Bay) haven't been hit by a hurricane directly in a very long time. So a lot of the problems everyone in those areas has is basically some house cleaning by nature. There were a lot of fallen limbs and downed trees. But the winds weren't very intense, maybe 65 mph by the time it reached my area.

u dont know how glad i am to have my power back on. 🙂 it just came on this evening. i like camping, but not inside my house.lol i lost power late sat day morning. half the nieghborhood is still out. yes i survived ok, the only scratches i have are from cutting trees up. no cows sighted but the winds were pretty strong on my end. the house came through alright but i lost a couple of trees....well techincally just one but he other one is half rooted up and the only thing holding it up are the power lines, but ill let the power company deal with that. im just glad they arent the ones to my house.🙂
we did get alot of rain. my house is in a good spot but there is alot of flooding. we started to get weather late friday night and it was still dumping lots of rain and wind on mon. it seemed to go on forever.

the owner of the store i contract with has two places in stuart, which is close to where it made landfall, he lost his boat and has major damage to both structures.

Capricorn Guy & cj7: Very glad you're both alright.

No power for 3 days, ugh, it weirds me out when we lose power for 30 minutes. I'm really glad you're okay. Really really. 🙂

I'm a little concerned about the tree still possibly falling on your house, though. Yes, let the power people do something with that.

That's too bad about the store owner. Will that also negatively affect you as well as him?

How are your animals?

Yea!! cj7 finally made contact, and all is well. I am so relieved that you came through the hurricane without any major problems, I was a little worried when we didnt hear from you for more than a day. Capricorn guy, glad to hear that you did not get hit very hard by it also. Seems like a rather large area was affected overall by the storm. Im so glad it's finally over. I dont like storms very much! We get real bad thunder and lightning storms here. The window above my bed cracked one time because the lightning hit so close. The sound of the window breaking from the thunder jerked me out of a sound sleep. It was real freaky, besides scaring me half to death. Man I thought the house was comming down on top of me for a minute. I remember my dad running into my bedroom to check on me because of the noise. I didn't realize that I had screamed a couple of times before he got there. And that was just a thunder storm, I can't imagine what a hurricane or tornado would be like. The earthquakes here in California are bad enough. My sister was one mile from the eppa center when the last earthquake hit Santa Cruz some years ago. Well I am just glad everything is ok like I said before. Bye and take care TW2
