The title is self explanatory. Before you make a drug joke, there's something eternally fulfilling in camping out hardcore with a bunch of glowing hippies in the middle of nowhere for several days, relying only on what you brought with you.

Has anybody here went to the Playa before or attended any regional events?

I've been to Transformus, outside Asheville. I loved it.

Again, this topic was not made with drugs in mind, man. It's a part of the thing if you choose to, yeah, but it's not the part of the experience I am talking about. You can drop acid, eat shrooms, smoke a joint, OD on coke, etc anywhere you want, your own choice.

I'm talking about regional events, the subculture itself, the ten principles, the amount of work people put into workshops... the fucking feel of a huge family you get, in a way. Also, I haven't met a single frank asshole burner, they're cool as fuck people even in a daily grind, away from the Playa, completely sober.

the closest I've come is acid at shows...that was years ago tho.

couldn't do that shit anymore...plus standing in line for the portapotty. Nah, bro.

My friend dropped acid at a Grateful Dead show about a week ago, said he had the time of his life...I was like "oh cool...fuckin, hippy" ...he was wearing a tie-dye tank top.

If you went to one of the regionals or the main event, and the best thing you extracted from the whole experience was drugs, than it's sad as fuck.

I've only ever been to Transformus, but from what I've been told by people who have been to Big Burning Man, the regional events are much more in line with the original principles and culture. Big Burning Man is too commercialized, not to mention wildly uncomfortable. Middle of the desert at the end of the summer. No thank you.

OK I sort of know what burning man is, I think...

but what do you do there? is it just like camping? do all those people together sort of smell?

Is it all about hanging out on drugs until they light a structure at the end?

Yes these are serious questions

Here, dig through the website. http://burningman.org/culture/philosophical-center/10-principles/

There are actually smaller events that happen throughout the country, hosted by local burner groups that are free and/or non-profit events, that foster the culture, as well as art and creativity in children.

There's a young Canadiam regional event that was made possible with Greater Vancouver Interactive Arts society.
