If you were born in the late 70s to the early 80s

You can appreciate this article. Glad someone finally pointed this out.

I was surprised when they stretched the "Millenial" generation all the way back to the early 80s. Everything they described just wasn't entirely accurate as there were gaps involved with various social matters, technological advances, etc, that had major effects on this generation. We fall in between Gen X and Millenials, really.

I thought I was considered Generation Y. The "millennial" thing came out maybe 6 years ago.

See, this is why I liked this article. Any time I read some bs about Millenials, they give examples of things that never applied to those born in the early 80s.

"Also known as Millennials, born between about 1980 and 2000.
Born between the advent of the Walkman and the founding of Google, the members of Gen Y are unsurprisingly shaped by technology. Some have made fortunes from it. A few, like this man, have already become billionaires.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, wearing a jacket. Most Gen Ys never do this. Including him.
The phrase Generation Y was first used in a 1993 Ad Age article, while Millennials was coined by sociologists Neil Howe and William Strauss. As well as being comfortable sharing their entire life online, this is a selfish, self-regarding generation. "Let me take a Selfie," is their catchphrase.
Maybe it is not surprising -- this is a group who were brought up and pampered by their Gen X parents, who soothed them to sleep with Baby Einstein tapes."

BABY EINSTEIN? Seriously? That shit came out in the late 90s. How would someone who's in their teens be a part of that?

All the things that they describe in regard to parents coddling and babying their kids- early to mid 90s with the babys and toddlers then. Again, those born in the early 80s- doesn't apply to them since they were too old.

I've always seen this inconsistency when it came to describing Millenials. They bring up all these examples, but they were mostly late 80s early 90s.

As someone pointed out in the comments section- it also depends on where you were raised and who raised you. I had older parents so they didn't do quite as much as some of the stupid shit we saw other parents doing. My mom worked in a daycare in the 90s and that's when we started seeing this dipshit parenting- helicopter parenting, the beginning of the super bug issue, coddling the shit out of their kids, etc. Hell, I BABYSAT some of these kids that they speak of. How are people born the same year that I am, lumped into this generation when we're old enough to supervise them??

It just seems like a stretch when they give all the details as to who fits this group and a lot of those don't even apply to kids born in the late 70s and early 80s.

On the topic of selfies- not only are they freaking annoying and littering every form of social media, but people are also ENABLING that shit by liking those pics. I purposely don't bother liking or acknowledging when someone posts excessive selfies on a daily basis.

It's like WHY are you liking this pic? You just saw them yesterday. They haven't changed and the pic is nothing- no special makeup, hair, burn, anything to actually show. Just attention whoring. You encourage it by liking, upvoting, etc. STOP IT.

If you stop giving that bullshit attention, chances are it'll start dying down.

Some people shouldn't even be posting selfies on a regular basis anyway. I don't want to see their inbred faces littering my social media feeds, sorry.

I have a Millennial son and know a lot of his friends

He is one of the hardest working kids i know...his teachers tell his dad and i *he tries too hard*

He talks of going to Uni and getting a career and is far more focused than i ever was. He has already started a portfolio, has a website, made two movies and more. I tell him *relax* but he is very driven (loaded 6th house). We have never put pressure on him but given him lots of our time and love

This generation are amazing...innovative, creative and super intelligent. Maybe in other cultures it is different but from what i can see, from where i live, these kids are moving mountains, they are bringing in an energy that represents the peaceful revolutionary ~ change without chaos ~

I hope for feck's sake the miserable old bastards that bring them down, havent produced any of their own. That attitude is reminiscent of cries of *put 'em in the army* of days gone by and is sure to screw young people up

I blame the parents for the way the kids turn out, so before you point the finger, Generation whatever you are, look at yourself

Inbred faces??

Ewwww, good thing I only add sexy ppl hahaha

Can you show me an inbred face?

There's a girl that I used to work with and she was constantly plastering her face all over Instagram. She's not ugly, but she has a really dopey face. One time, she posts her selfie with some sort of "inspirational" quote and all I could think was, "Honey, your face does anything but inspire me. It looks inbred."

Honestly, what is the big deal with selfies? I'm not crazy about them, but I also don't like how I look in pictures. Takes me way too long to take a selfie, haha.

I just think there are better things to worry about.

Really? Because I'm pretty sure your logic also applies to those who spend too much time posting selfies on social media. There are better things you could be doing with your time.

And if you don't see what the big picture problem is, you're likely very much like the individuals who slap their face all over social media for constant reassurance and ego boosting. I feel sorry for people who have developed a sort of OCD in posting their face several times a day. It also really makes me lol when they post it with some sort of inspirational quote or "I'M AT __________" PLACE!" or "I'M DOING ______!" You see nothing of where they are or what they're doing. Just their face.

I've even embarrassed some by asking that. "You are? Well where is it?"

Like Ram said, it's funny that you think there's no big deal- of course you wouldn't, chick who has a selfie for a userpic.

Ya I agree, I think it's because older generations despise youth and change.

The hippie movement for example. Those older conservative ww1 and 2 generations couldn't stand how the baby boomers were catalysts for change.

You are such a fucking idiot to attribute the Boomers as the better generation over the WWII generation.

Honey, no. Just no.

Let's reread her post, shall we?

OLDER GENERATIONS DESPISE YOUTH AND CHANGE.

Example being all the change during the Boomer's era was met with resistance from the older generation. Civil rights, Women's movement, social changes, rock n roll coming along, etc.

Nowhere in her statement did she say that boomers > greatest generation.

Another example of her point is currently- all the old fuck boomers still running bits and pieces of this country- resistant to social changes we're pushing for now. "OMG GAYS GETTING MARRIED. OMG WOMEN AND BIRTH CONTROL. TRANSGENDER. RAWR CHANGE IS EVIL."

It's a cycle, old vs youth.

So calm the hell down, dude. You totally misunderstood her point.

My son is a Millineal too and he is an ambitious, hard working kid.

Every generation has thier "stars" and their "deadbeats".
