using loose change; did same in 1994!

FRANKFORT, Ind. - Paul Brant considers himself a penny pincher, but his savings in quarters and dollar coins really paid off.
Brant, 70, used more than $ 25,000 in change to help buy a new Dodge Ram half-ton pickup truck Friday - 13 years after buying another truck with spare change.
"(The old truck) didn't have four-wheel drive, and living in the country, I figured I better get a new one to help get me through the snow," he said.
Brant said he was raised to be thrifty. His father always paid in cash and saved up loose change to take vacations.
Brant has been storing his change for years, and estimated he had about $ 26,000 in coins for Friday's purchase. In 1994, he bought a Dodge pickup and a Dodge Neon using about $ 36,000 in quarters.
As long as you don't put your hands back in the till, it really adds up," he said.
Brant stored his change in coffee cans, water jugs and piggy banks over the years, and was escorted by sheriff's deputies as he brought the rolled coins to the dealership.
A Mike Raisor Chrysler Dodge and Jeep employee who sold Brant the truck said the dealership called in an armoured car to count and handle the coins.

No bank wants to take them," Keith Gephart said.
LOL, first reading this, i thought he was bucking the system, exuse pun.. But wow, me thinks he could be a either Virgo or a Cappie?? Winking
That's incredible. I wonder where he stored all of that. That's a whole lot of piggy banks and jars to keep around the house.
So true!! DK ..and how would he keep it so safe and private ALL this time?? It's not like a sock in a drawer..lol
LOL Sock in a drawer. I would think Capricorn for his sign. Just taking a wild guess though. I'm thinking he probably stored all of it in either his basement or attic. Maybe even both lol. I wouldn't be surprised if he built a new shed in his backyard to keep it all in either. You'd have to go to great lengths to ensure utmost security for such a vast amount of coinage.
i keep a change jar in the house that i empty my pockets into when i get home.....about every couple months i hit it up and usually get anywhere from 60-80 bucks out of it. plus i use the quarters to wash the car.lol i would never roll all that though, they have those coin star machines and u just dump it in and it sorts and counts it for what ever percentage. comes in handy sometimes.smile
i've rolled coins every now and then, but nothing unmanageabe so far..lol
Come to think of it, we do have more 'coinage' here in Canada, than in the US. We got rid of our 1 & 2 dollar bills for big shiney coins instead. So lots of heavy change now..LOL i just hope they don't turn our 5 into a coin, anytime soon!! ..otherwise i will need a truck. Winking
when i went to scotland it was like that ....way too much weight in your pocket.lol
If they even think about changing the 5 into a coin I'm going to move. It's as if we have too many minerals in the ground up here that we have to use all of it on coins alone. The one thing that annoys me the most is having a ton of change in my pocket weighing me down. I mean, COME ON! Who needs that much change? But then again there are those times where you actually need change and for some odd reason you don't have any.
