I wouldn't count that as a nickname unless it was somehow connected to a person's real name, personality, characteristic trait, physical trait, etc.
That's more of a common term
of affection/endearment/politeness/friendliness that people/strangers throw around these days.

For example, at work, a female colleague and male Hispanic customers call me "Mommy." I can't explain it, but coming from them, it's adorable. Others call me "sweetheart", "honey", and "love." It used to truly irritate me, but now it doesn't bother me so much. Also, I find that I'm more willing to accept it if it comes from someone my age or older. Teenie boppers saying, "thanks, hun!" is eye-twitch inducing.

If you're talking about a significant other, them I would hope my man knows me well and is also creative enough to have a pet name tailored for me. It doesn't have to be the very first of its kind, but it has to relate to me/suit me and not every female version of Tom, Dick, and Harry (Larry?).

I think it's "mami"-- which is similar to sweetie or honey.

I don't mind it when it's intended to be friendly... as for the teenie bops, though?

I hate that shit. *shudder*

Lol nemesis, I will be taking note of that I don't do nicknames. He's trying to think of a nickname and I'm like can you not. My name is good enough ha!.
Zero yes that's also what it means but it's so effortless so many guys use it even guys whom i don't know randomly say it, so it ticked my nerves when he decided to use it -_-.
And lol "papi" now that's a classic..

Haha. Seriously, I call my daughter baby it'd be weird for me to call a gf that.

When I was a teenager dating my first wife, I called her sugar (corny, I know). She actually called me Kleatus...from the Klumps movie. It had recently come out and we laughed like mad people at the dinner scene. The giggles and low brow fart jokes, the clapping Kleatus chant....ah. Somehow the fact that the movie and I made her snort in laughter linked me to it. A bunch of us hung out all the time and goofed off, we reenacted(ish) the dinner scene...in public and I was cemented as Kleatus.

Or maybe it's cause if you had put my real family at a dinner table it looks about like theirs did.

How do feel if someone calls you bae? have you ever been called it before? why aren't people more creative nowadays with nicknames?

Yes, my husband calls me common nicknames: babe, bae, baby, sexy, sweetheart, boo, etc.

But we also have nicknames for each other that are more personalized. It seems that most others do too. He calls me Krysmeth b/c he says I'm addicting, just not in the "I'll eventually F your body up & kill you" kinda way lmao

Sometimes we only use our more personalized nicknames behind closed doors & use the more common nicknames in public or around others. Hell, most people wouldn't understand our personalized nicknames either. It's not supposed to make sense to anyone else. It's between us. It's something only we understand.
